Serial Scherzo

Featured Replies

I guess this is my symphony, though it has no form.

I thought it would be interesting to make a serial composition, but then I ran out of ideas. So about a 20 seconds into it becames tonal. Any review would be appreciated, the last piece I posted got zero reviews(which is kind of depressing). I've decided to spend the next year on it.

I think this piece was well written. It was all over the place, but seemed firmly grounded in its construction. When I read you saying "Serial" I wasn't sure if I'd like it, but it was good. It reminded me of a battle scene in a movie, which made the "being all over the place" very fitting.

What was your intention of the work? A fight scene?

Just go back to your thread and wake it up. Say something like, "Any thoughts?" Someone will eventually respond.

Actually, I was planning on this being the third movement a Symphony. I took some themes from the first movement, which is why they might seem out of place.

I really like it and will give it several listens. I'd really like to hear the whole symphony when you finish. can you post the score?

Score?

Im gonna have to listen to it a couple times more its late now. Post a link from this thread on a reply and I'll go review the other piece.

The flute at about 1:00 was really cool. I liked the reintroduction of the first theme. The snare drum was cool at 2:30. I like what your doing with the piece. I'd say maybe don't stop percussion push until the end. Switch it off with something else? Bass drum? Toms?, the music kinda feels like it stops and it stopped going forward for me at certain parts. (not talking about the woodwind solos) At the end maybe put the snare drum back in with a lesser part. It drives this piece once it comes in. Without it you lose the "push".

Percussion.

Good luck, I like alot of things here. Ill come back and maybe do a bit more with an edit.

I've decided to work on it more. I didn't even like this myself.
