October 24, 200520 yr Birds, organs, strings. One of my longer songs, with a bit of repetivity, but manages to change it up it enough to still be interesting. I thought the birds would be an interesting idea, change up the way my songs are written a bit. It's a laid back song, and I hope you'll enjoy it Please rank on a scale from 1-10. October 26, 200520 yr I find the first note of the cello very 'violent', really unexpected. The rhythm of the cello's first two phrases is a little out of balance as well (last bars of the intro). Although you've put quite some work in the arranging/orchestration, the melody and the song itself feel a little generic. There's not a lot of movement going on within each section. The clearest contrast is in the texture of the different sections. The first tonal 'surprise' occurs at 2:02. I'd rewrite the melody and put more emphasis on it (in order to make your piece more attractive), so there's a clearer separation between melody and underlying harmony. You can switch the instruments that carry the melody though. I do think the texture of the harmony is great and has a certain natural, forest-like character (or have I been playing Zelda 64 for too long?). I can't give this piece a rating, I'm sorry.
October 30, 200520 yr The very strange opening noise definitely made me feel as if I were walking down a forest lane listening to the birds. The slow rock beat destroyed for me the pastoral tranquility that I felt should suffuse this piece. You ought to try playing this piece without the drum set. See how it sounds then and what sorts of feelings it will generate. I tihnk you've got something that can be very good, but the addition of the drum set really took away for me the scene of the forest. Forests do not have so steady a beat after all!
