THis is a jazz piece more in the style of Me. The solo's not the best; It's hard to write solos in finale without a midi keyboard, you lose...feeling, I guess. I dunno, it's just hard. My brother came up with the sax line for the bridge, and I think it's totally awesome.

Sorry, no midi on this one too. I'll try and get one asap...

Reviews are more than welcome, hope you enjoy!

I liked it alot. I think it would benifite some modulation at the end when you return to that baseline though. Thats it or else I really liked it good job.

I like it. As a little hint, jazz vibe players typically play with two mallets. So they can't hit three notes.

I should know, I am one.

Really? I usually use four. You can't really comp with two.....

Anyhow, I played it before I wrote it, and, although a couple parts are a little tricky, it works.

The ending was kinda iffy. I like it, but I think it's a bit...missing something. I dunno, I'll work on it.

_Cool, a jazz vibes player! I never thought I'd see another one. :)

The drumline I was in had three people using two on each hand. Its really cool. I wish I could do it better.

Well then you should explore more ways to use the instrument. I play guitar and there are a TON of different ways to play. Yet, I find myself exploring all of these genres and mixing them together and tearing them apart. Doing something different in your technique doesn't make it less Jazzy. If it SOUNDS lot different then maybe, but its just an advantage in my opinion, one more voicing to be added.

What Kal said...jazz vibe players usually play with four mallets...

Re: the piece. It's okay - I guess I just don't dig the smooth jazz style (just a matter of personal taste). Overall though it seems to work well.

Just a side note, who do you guys listen to? Vibists? Other jazz composers?

I listen to anything from acid jazz (Bona Fide) to Funk, Herbie Hancock to Gorver Washington Jr. in terms of jazz. I don't have too many recordings of older stuff, but every day I randomly pick a song out of my fake book and play it. Heh...

Vibe players aren't too well-known, except for maybe Lionel Hampton. I also like some of Roy Ayers stuff, and Joe Locke's pretty cool.

I like old-school R&B (kids at my school think I'm crazy), and of course, Stevie Wonder.

Oh, and Sade. She's my all-time favorite. And then there's disco... I could list more, but then it would seem like I'm rambling.

I'm working on that midi file, just hold tight...

_Robin, if it makes you feel any better, I can't stand Kenny G.:)

It does make me feel better...

There's a lot of great jazz especially featuring vibes, try and diversify and check out as much stuff as possible...

Bobby Hutcherson - pioneer of '60s hard bop and freejazz.

Gary Burton - jazz vibraphone guru, dig the duo records w/ Chick Corea or Keith Jarrett or Ralph Towner.

Stefon Harris - the hip young player, a devastating writer and improvisor.

Milt Jackson - another pioneer of modern vibraphoning.

I've heard of Milt Jackson and Gary Burton, but I don't have any of their recordings. As for Stefon Harris and that Bobby guy, they don't ring a bell.

Very solid piece; I enjoyed listening to it. It's obvious you're a percussionist...and that's a compliment. ;) I also like your use of bright piano, and the sax riffs were very good.

Oh- last summer, I saw a couple of jazz vibe soloists use eight mallets, four in each hand~ amazing.
