My first completed work

Featured Replies

Um, this is my first piece I have composed (as in completed, which it why it is going to suck:-k) ... I did it over the last couple days. I made it on Sibelius... and I could only export it as a midi. So, please excuse the midi

Arabian... Strings.sib

Any way you can put a score in?

Put the Sibelius file.

Erik

this is ok. u kind of just use the strings to play long notes only reallyt, what about chaging the texture. if your going for the arabian feel the melodys are good in that they are windy. Ive been only composing for 4 months but i always tried to have a main theme. i mean like a chorus in music somink that is familar about the piece. Hardly ever do i hear the same music twice. Its like its just one LONGGGG melody. But for your first composition its ok mine was better :) gud luck and keep composing

I agree with violin's comments. You need more movement in your melody.

Yes yes very true... Arabian music is centered on one key instrument and melody... I am drowning it a bit. Thanks for the suggestions; I'm working on a similar piece with that in mind.

I converted it to mp3... so they sound a bit better (note, this is still the old version, just sounds better)

Your piece is boring, but it is not poorly constructed as far as I can see. I am no expert, don't trust my opinion. Consider it if you'd like. There are really good ideas in the piece. I like the beginning as well as some of your development with the violin melodies. However, I would not place the harp melody in the foreground because the violins will drown it out. The harp is not a loud instrument Mezzo Forte at best is my guess. You would probably be much more satisfied with your piece if you tried developing some of those creative rhythms and melodic ideas you stated earlier on. Keep it up - I'll look forward to hearing what you do.

Well I didn't get bored like everyone else.:D I thought it was just fine besides the crappy midi. (driving me crazy, as I bash my head into concrete)

Before I give a review, what were you trying to accomplish with it?

Anything in particular?

I also didn't get bored. There wasn't really much wrong with it. It created an atmosphere but it didn't feel special. Of course, it could just be the MIDI (the Soundclick link doesn't seem to work for me).

The intro was good but, as others have said, bear in mind that the harp isn't very loud. Don't make it play the melody when everyone else is playing. You can have it in the background where it discretely adds a bit of texture.

Very nice considering it's your first piece.
