First of all, thank you very much for the comments!

Saiming: I don't know that much about Nordic Mythology at all. Although, the guys involved in the game design have made a more comprehensive research about the subject. As to me, I just tried to convey the idea that came to my mind when I thought of heroes, epic adventures, remarkable quests, etc (which, of course, may be highly influenced by the hollywoodish approaches of it). Since you are Scandinavian, I apologise for the stylistic contradictions.. ;)

Fox: I know exactly what you are talking about! I feel just the same thing as you described here. I must admit that I've been trying to deal with the dynamics on this piece for some time, and it hasn't come to the point I wanted to reach yet. All this trouble is due to lacking of knowledge on how to get the most out of the sound library. I'm still not familiar with sampled instruments and all that kind of stuff. Your suggestions are very pertinent! I'm already working on it. So, stay tuned for the next versions!

James: I used Finale and GPO (both the finale's built-in and the standalone one). I like the strings of Finale's GPO, but for woodwinds and brass I'd rather use the separated version (at least, it sounds better on my PC... :))

Once more, thanks everyone for the replies!

I have made some changes on the piece since the last post. Here it is now:

I worked more on the dynamics this time. But I also changed the melody here and there (there are some parts that were considerably improved, at least in my opinion...)

Once more I would appreciate reviews and suggestions,

Pedro

Once again you post an update, once again I love it....but once again I have the same criticism! I think the improvements you have made work and personally I cannot fault this piece except for the lack of power!

It's still a brilliant piece - but it could be staggeringly impressive! I really wanted to find some other criticism so it didn't just sound like I was repeating myself but alas...it's really good, and I can find no other...

Oh buddy, it seems we haven't come to a point yet... No problem at all! :P

I'm working on adding this impressive final touch you talked about.

But may I ask you something? Could you go a little further on your criticism?

Although I'm really interested in what you said, I can't get it through (try to be more concise and objective, if possible).

Regards,

Pedro

I think it depends on what the music is being heard with. If it is accompanying a big battle scene, then yeah, it needs to be energetic.

Anyway, great update, keep it up.:P

Pedro - I'll do my best but this is where my lack of technical vocabulary lets me down.

OK - at 2:06 you've got a timp roll, and you have some brass coming in to repeat the main melody. That's cool, I just think at THIS point, you could raise the volume a bit, put in a big splash with the cymbals or a gong, and add some trupets playing the melody about an octave higher than where the brass is playing at the moment. Then at about 2:28 you repeat it again, and I can hear the cymbals at the start of this bit but again they seem far too quiet. I think you should bring the crash of them very much to the forefront of the piece.

Also in this bit, you could perhaps do something adventurous with the strings - don't make them too much more complicated but maybe at a basic level they could play arpeggios (Yay a word I know! XD) or something like that.

Hope that was a little more helpful, really looking forward to anything you do to it.

That's it Fox! Now it is quite clear! I'll check everything out and work on the improvements asap.

Thanks again for your attention,

Pedro
