WIP - Untitled

Well here's something I've been humming for a while. Something I'd thought I'd work on. Still not done yet, hence the W.I.P. (Work in progress).

I'm going to try and make this into a full scale song (hopefully) which will be my first.

Hey! I like the syncopation you had going at the end. That's one of my favorite rhythmic effects to use. A few comments:

1) Nice venture into larger ensemble pieces! However, I think you should focus on starting small with typical chamber groups- string quartets, brass quintets, piano trios...

2) I didn't notice a lot of harmony in this piece :D Is that what you wanted it to sound like, or are you still working on that?

3) Voice leading- In the cello line, I noticed parallel fifths. Generally, when there are two voices sounding together at an interval of a perfect fifth, it's not typical for those two voices to move up/down to another perfect fifth. Does that make sense? This is my first time trying to teach this lol

Nice start, but there's obviously a lot more work to be done (thus, the WIP label)

Up to 8 seconds, it sounds like the first half of a melody.

After that like a secondary melody. the two parts don't fit that well together side by side, although they are related enough to be in the same piece. Maybe it's just me though, because I kept wanting the next part to do the dies irae, so it was a little frustrating, it came instantly to mind so that's a problem you might encounter.

I'm not going to say much about the rhythm at the end since I'll need to hear more.

This has a folk tune/battle hymn feel to it. You could make a rhapsody out of it, maybe an Iceland Rhapsody? Cool title anyway, better than WIP, you'll get lots of views! :D

I'm still trying to work on getting a harmony in there, but this is my 2nd piece so still have to learn most of the basics.

Thanks for mentioning the battle theme! That's what kind of feeling I wanted to get out of the piece.

Alright, you know how different intervals are called things like "major third," "minor sixth..." There's an interval called a "perfect fifth" where the two notes sounding at the same time are either three lines or three spaces apart. So from F up to C is a "perfect fifth/5th." So, when these notes move, all of a sudden there are some rules to follow about how they are allowed to move. When you have those two notes (F and C), or any other set of notes that make a perfect 5th, move in the same direction, there's a rule that says that they shouldn't move to another set of notes that make a perfect 5th. So, if F and C were to move down to D and A, that would be breaking the rule. There are ways to get around this, like if they moved up instead so the D was above the A. And, like most rules in music, there are exceptions. This rule is basically a guideline, but should be followed pretty carefully most of the time.
