Albanus Mass

Featured Replies

hi! posting the 1st sections of my Albanus Mass. later i will post the remaining sections. i am still changing some things.... i don't know if it is finished... the original is intended for 3 solo voices and organ. the instrumentation was changed here for the midi, because my soundboard's organ and voices are ridiculous. so, any comment will be welcomed! thanks in advance!

1 Kyrie 5 - Kyrie - Christe - Kyrie

2 Gloria 5A - Gloria in excelsis - Laudamus te

3 Gloria 5B - Gratias agimus tibi

4 Gloria 5C - Quoniam tu solus sanctus

5 Gloria 5D - Cum Sancto Spirito - Amen

here the remaining pieces

Credo 5A - Credo in unum Deum

Credo 5B - Genitum, non factum - Et incarnatus est - Crucifixus - Et ressurrexit tertia die

Credo 5C - Et in Spiritum sanctum

Credo 5D - Confiteor unum baptisma - Et expecto ressurrectionem mortuorum

Sanctus 5 - Sanctus domine Deus sabaoth

Osanna 5 - Osanna in excelsis/Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini/Osanna in excelsis - Agnus Dei - Dona nobis pacem

I need to feel better to give this its due (I've been ill this week).

However, I did listen to about half of the Kyrie, and it's striking. Sounds somewhat minimal to me, with a touch of Arvo Part, but that's just a first impression.

I'll get back to this.

thank you Lee! hope you recover soon!

your parallel with Arvo Pärt is surprising to me! intersting view! looking forward for a fuller comment when you have the time to.

best regards!

I'm just letting you know that I have listened to this entire work. It is certainly pleasing to have in the background, but the whole tihng sounds a little too much the same for me to stay focussed on it for the amount of time I need to right now to give a thorough review.

I will add more helpful comments sometime when I have more time to comment thoughtfully. But it does seem to sound pleasing to me, even if it is surprisingly long for a Mass.

I'll get back to you on this!

I can't tell which of the instruments are supposed to represent the human voice. But having sung many years in vocal ensembles, I think it would be difficult to sing and probably impossible to sing on pitch. The composer is not making good use of counterpoint. Recommend remedial training in counterpoint. Even if the piece isn't intended to be classical, voice leading is still very important to any choral music. Fux would be a good source for traditional voice leading.
