Categorizing Non-Major Works

Featured Replies

Although there are several sub-forums which divide the uploading of compositions into sections, there should be a further level of classification by genre (i.e. classical, romantic). This would make members' lives easier, knowing that a piece in a specific genre they are comfortable with commenting on is waiting to be commented on.

No there shouldn't be. Why should we make the effort to show in what genre a piece may lie just because someone is too lazy to find out?

There are almost too many categories and subdivisions as it is, without adding more clutter. And there would be inevitable problems with the inherent pigeon-holing nature of this idea.

Uhh...you don't. The uploader does. All you need to do is put up several genre subforums, and the uploader will decide where his/her composition will correctly fit.

This idea merely constitutes unnecessary further fragmentation of posts, in my view. As Daniel said, the genre/style of a work should become apparent on listening to it.

include 'symbolist' then, won'cha?

That too. Genres are far too wide-ranging for categorising each one of them to be a possibility.
