May 7, 200719 yr This is my first time so i hope this works! This is a piece that I have written for a string orchestra, accompanied by a flute, a horn, a trumpet, and a tuba. (solo winds, i guess) I was trying to portray the peace of the moment, as finals are approaching rapidly! To be completely honest, I only spent 30-45 minutes composing it, then maybe 15 minutes revising it a few days later. I think it turned out fairly well, although the string parts may get boring...we'll see. The midi sounds really funny, but if you can open it with finale or something it will sound better, i think. May 9, 200719 yr I've got to say, it does sound like something that was written in a very short time. That's not to insult you, but that my sense is of something incomplete and underdeveloped. I think the repetitive nature of the material could have been interesting. It would require a great deal of work, with subtle changes and shifts in the harmony, tiny shifts in the melodic material, something - even something subliminal - to bring a bit more interest to it. The orchestration is defective, however. The single flute is pantomime against the rest of that ensemble. I'd suggest rather than the single flute and the piano against brass and strings, why not a full woodwind complement - 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons to balance out against the strings and brass? Eliminate that piano completely.
