Lion's Roar

Featured Replies

I read an article about percussion, where a percussion instrument called "Lion's Roar" was mentioned, which is said to be an instrument that resembles the sound of a lion roaring. I think that would be a very dramatic and exciting effect to use in compositions, but I couldn't find any information about the instrument. Does anybody know more about it?

YESS! i do!!

Steve Bryant's piece Loose Id for orchestra contains a Lions roar. His website is www.stevenbryant.com i think, and he has his pieces on the site where you can listen to the lions roar for yourself. Though its sorta hard to find when you don't know sound to look for.

I don't play any percussion instruments, so maybe someone could clarify on how it gets its sound. Something like pulling a string out of a bass drum.
