A piece you might hear on a ship. For a video game.

Hello, I'm new here, but don't see a lot of point in posting in the introduction topic; it looks like nobody really responds. So here I am, and this is my link...

To New Lands

So, the theme is, you're on a boat and sailing, going to someplace you've never been to before in hopes of a bright future, and all that. It's actually part of a midi soundtrack to a freeware game going out sometime next year.

Techniques used... there's a nice piano in this and I always try to make everything sound as human as possible through painstaking midi editing, so maybe it'll sound alright. It took maybe a week to compose and a few weeks to edit and mixdown, so I'm guessing somewhere in the neighborhood of... including guitar practice time... 20-25 work hours? Obstacles, well, there's a whole lot of ornamentation in the piano and I often wondered if it got excessive and had to fool with it for a bit.

That was very enjoyable...I feel that some parts were a bit rushed, but that's my opinion...

Also, nice sounds!

To be honest, I think that's a very solid piece, apart from the percussion. It seems too random and I think it throws it off somehow. The piano is ace, but is there a reason it's only happening on my right-sided speakers?

The flute melody was pretty inevitable considering it's about the sea, but nonetheless enjoyable and fun for what it was. Still, it seemed awfully high, kinda piercing - if that's what you're going for, then cool, but I found it to be slightly annoying.

But I liked that a lot! So, well done, I guess.

A couple things... drum set off? Hm... I thought I did okay with the drums this time but maybe the cymbals were a bit off-kilter. Oh well. The piano is indeed panned to the right a bit; if it were center the whole mix would be off-balance. And there's no flute in here... but there is a piccolo :D And what would a piccolo be if it didn't nearly pierce your eardrums? Haha. (Unfortunately I did everything I could to prevent it and still keep it flowing, but it still happened, ah well). Thanks again for the comments (so far?).
