Gideon (an unfinished musical suite)

Featured Replies

Hey! I started writing this for orchestra a while ago. Right now, it's only in an outline form (not much, if any, orchestration/spreading of parts). It's the closest I've gotten to program music so far, so it might be interesting to hear what pictures come to mind when you listen :P

Thanks for taking the time to hear my work!

The first could be music for an historical epic set in the mid-East with riders and a camel caravan going through sand dunes and rocky hills approaching a walled city. It has a wide open spaces feel. Very nice.

The second starts off possibly as an outdoor night scene (slaves building a pyramid/fortification by torchlight) but I am not sure what the percussion from bar 15 means - hmmm, maybe some dancing.

Hey! Yup, you got the basic idea of it. It is set in the middle east. The first part is just setting the scene- the glorious land of the ancient Israelites. However I realized upon listening to it again that I used very little harmonic/melodic/rhythmic material that seemed very arabic... I should search the forums for tips on achieving that sound. Anyways, you caught right on to the idea in the second part. The percussion at 15 along with the pulsing low strings was basically a scene change to a battle of some sort. I will have to experiment with sounds that will achieve that- listen to some ancient times movie battle music

HAHA, I just realized that I haven't completely graphed what the shape of the piece will look like. I know I'm going for the story of Gideon, but I have no idea how it will all flow yet. I best get working on that ;)

Thanks for listening!
