Slight problem. Scherzos are supposed to be in triple metre.

Noooo... Beethoven wrote scherzi in 2/4 as well.

Hmm. Interesting. Didn't know that. Thanks anders. :)

Did you like the Scherzo Eddwin?

what exactly makes this piece a "scherzo"?

it appears to have none of the earmarks of the form.

actually, the form is what made Mendelssohn call it a "scherzo".

by the mid 19th century, the term had lost all "joke" implications.

The scherzo is an offshoot of the Menuet, and thus follows the structure of that older form, minus the "stately dance" feel.

While your piece might be scherzando (ie: scherzo-ish), it is not a scherzo. When selecting a title it is always best to understand any formal implications associated with the title.

A scherzo requires a Trio section, and a certain set pattern of repetition of sections, even if treated in a superficial manner.

Thanks for your input, but this forms are not found in the Mendelssohn B minor scherzo. Apparently, scherzo had evolved to something else then what it used to be, and not only limited to the ' scherzando' aspect of it.

actually, before you speak, you should really do some analysis.

I just listened to the mendelssohn scherzo, and it MOST definately has the traditional form of a scherzo.

it would be best in future to KNOW what it is you are talking about before arguing a point.

by the way, I now find that your "scherzo" is far too similar in texture (albeit not form) to the Mendelssohn.

That was fun little piece, Saul - I especially liked your use of dynamics at the end, and the chord changes throughout. Thanks for sharing.

Are we talking about the same Scherzo?

Youre sure that you didnt listen to the E minor?

I was reffering to the B minor one.

Anyways Here is the Mendelssohn Scherzo In B minor that I was talking about.

And the funny thing is that I didnt get any inspiration from this Mendelssohn Scherzo. I even think that I discovred this Mendelssohn scherzo only after I have written my scherzo. My C sharp Scherzo is an early work.

Just to make sure we are on the same page here, Michel.

I liked it.

It has a certain relentless drive.
