Keeping Bars evenly spaced in Sibelius 4.1

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. First off, it's a pleasure to be a part of a community such as this. I am still learning how to use this great tool called Sibelius, and I'm sure with some help from more experienced users, I'll be zooming past these problems in no time! I'll be glad to help also when I get to that point, but until then...

I have a question regarding how to keep bars evenly spaced in Sibelius, even after you delete or insert notes (or slashes) that occupy less space in the bar, so that the chord symbols above don't get smooshed together. Thanks for any help on the matter!

if you click on the bar-line, you can drag it around. or, you can drag the chord symbols around to get it into the right spot.

Basically, if it's in Sibelius, you can drag it around to wherever you want it :)

Take a look at the Sibelius 4 quick start guide, downloadable from here:

Sibelius Hints and Tips

there's a section on layout and formatting, which has 20 or so useful hints.

To respace a measure, select it and use the shortcut alt-shift-rightarrow or left arrow (opt-shift-left / right arrow on Mac).

Don't drag the barline - it won't respace the measure effectively.

You can also tell Sibelius how many measures you want per line via a plug-in called "Make Layout Uniform".

You can also make every barline line up evenly throughout the page: but that's an extra sneaky step: email me for how to do this.

Cheers,

Robin@Sibelius
