Orchestral composition "Seasons"

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

This composition is still unfinished, but i`d like to hear your opinions. I know that there are many professional composers here, so don`t be too strict, i did my best. I find it difficult to define the style of my composition, can you help me with that also?

Thank you!

hey can you put a MIDI and/or finale file up, just cause of the file size for us slow internet connection folk, and also so i can see the music, hehe that would be cool

I`m afraid that midi file would ruine the whole picture. I used high quiality orchestral libraries to make it sound as real as possible.

Yes but we want to be able to look at the score so that we can provide you with a complete set of comments. We are not here JUST to listen, we want to see the notes :(

You know, sometimes that is all someone wants. Just listen, sit back and gather your thoughts... then type. Not to hard. Did it in college for hours... To not comment at ALL just b/c of their personal preference on their own creation is absurd and slowly defeats the point of this site. Yes, I know, the score helps. I've analyzed Beethoven to Mahler, but to ignore a newcomer b/c you won't take the time to simply listen to a composition is a little arrogant.

OK, listened to your work. Over all liked it. Very impressed by the recording. What brass library do you use? In my opinion, it sounded a little neoclassical and then progressed into more of a movie score feel. Your sudden change in dynamics really caught me off guard and was a pleasant surprise. I didn't notice any modulations or chromatic harmonies. The vibraphone or xylophone sounded a little harsh. Maybe try and use a softer mallet with more vibrato. And I get the title "seasons". The strings in the beginning are very playful and go well with the solo flute. Like the imitation between the winds and strings. The pizz. are nice but maybe a little over used. I like how the low non-crescendo timpani foreshadows the complete change in mood of the piece. Again, your brass is awesome. The selection of the tambourine is refreshing. Ends nice and mellow, kind of sorrowful.

Good Job. Definitely worth the 7min. download. I can hear your effort in this piece. To work the sound libraries and other software to manage and arrange them to form a realistic orchestra as possible is an ART all its own.

Thanks for your comments. Really appreciate that. I really wanted people to comment music itself, besides, the real musician will hear everything he needs just like that.

I compose everything in Cubase using East West Quantum Leam Orchestral Library (Silver and Gold) as well as Edirol HQ orchestral. IMHO they are much better sounding than Garritan library.

This composition still needs to be finished. I indeed tried to show changes of the seasons in it, glad you noticed that. :whistling:

Regarding the radio - well i`ll think about it, but I reealy would not like to switch to Garrytan orchestra, `cause it sounds primitive.

By the way, my previous reply was deleted. I wonder if it was made on purpose. Hmm...

Hey Casper, some of my replies have been deleted too. Not sure why. Looks like they upgraded the forums reply area. O well, just wanted to let you know you can just use one Garritan library, like the string library which is perfection and runs about 700.00, and still get on the radio station. I agree - the personal orchestra is primitive... it's for beginners.
