DUET COMPETITION

Featured Replies

Welcome to the duet competition! For this competition you will use two instruments of whatever type you choose to write music in whatever style you choose! The pieces will be judged by a panel of volunteer YC members.

If you want to participate, please post in this thread and I will add you to the list. Similarly, if you want to be a judge, you should also post in this thread. You need to have some experience and be confident in your abilities as a composer to be a judge. There are no requirements whatsoever for being a participant, but composers are preferred....;)

THE ENSEMBLE: Two instruments of any kind.

THE DEADLINE: 23:59 EST JULY 31

A NOTE: Composers must submit NEW MUSIC ONLY. You can expand on existing works/sketches, but the piece should consist of at least 50% new material.

SUBMISSIONS: Submit your piece here when you are ready to do so.

I'll give it a go...although I did promise Marius I'd work on my lesson...

I'll try and fit both in...

I'm in, though the timeframe will be a chalenge for me.

I'm in.

I think... I'm in... ;) (Yes, I'm in.)

Whoa, I'm delighted to see so much interest! ;) I've added all of you.

I'd gladly judge if I can get online, I've heard rumors that I'll have wifi where I'm goin' until August 11th so we'll see if they're true. :D

Sure I'll do it.

Do we win a grand prize?!?!?!?!

There might indeed be a prize.... :D

Immortal red text no?

(by the way, a cookie would be much appreciated)

I'm in so sign me up.

What kind of length are we looking at and do armpits count as an instument? Sorry that just popped into my head..... But do they?

Of course they do. :D

There are no guidelines on length - go crazy.

I think ill try this competition.

Havent ever made a duet, but i have made lots of other works... so Ill give this a go.

I'm in.

Can one be a harmonic instrument or does it have to be two monophonic instruments?

Two instruments of any kind, Mark.

Awesome. Bring on the "Duet for Anvil and Steam Engine"

I would like to part of this sounds fun.

Count me in.

I'm in.

in whatever style you choose

I'm guessing originality isn't a judging criterion?

The judging criterion will consist mainly of how well you manage to use the two instruments - is it idiomatic? Do the two instruments interact imaginatively? etc..

I would like to participate, providing there are enough spots available.

I think originality could be part of the criteria, it's possible to be original even within a style. There's a difference between emulating a style with original ideas and then just copying a style by copying ideas.

If you have any suggestions for judging criteria, I'd be happy to see them. PM them to me, pretty please. :P

I'd be happy to judge if you can put up with me.
