A Romantic essay for Orchestra

Featured Replies

This hasn't been getting much attention. And i'd like it to so I can learn and grow in the style of Romanticism.

Please COMMENT!!

I feel there are some things missing. So before I continue it I'd like some advice.

Soooo, BE mean!

I really like your song, and the thing that i think is missing is it seems like your trying to make a build into somthing, but then you dont go to it, and i think it would be amazing if you put in a flowing melody after the huge build

I think of the main problems you have with this piece is that you make a raising action, but then just make the piece loud. Although, I think you have the right idea, all this tension, which you built, is doesn't resolve or feel complete. It is just there.

Well thematically you have the potentiality here. It is almost resonant with a tinge of something wagnarian. The problem is you don't develop it.. :whistling:

Obviously not a completed score (I hope). Here's the main issue to me: it's too based on structure. The rhythms, the tonalities, the colors, all of it is just too structured. In a true romantic piece, the majority if not the entirety of the piece is based on emotions. Your goal is to get the listener to feel something. The closest I got to feeling anything was anxiety, and even that subsided when I realized nothing new was going to happen next. One tip might be to speed things along as the tension builds, but once it reaches it's breaking point (which was sooner than when you ended it) it needs to explode into some rich and lush harmonies. I go to Vaughan Williams for my inspiration as a Romantic Composer. if it continues to rise, it needs to be supported by something dramattic as well.

Also, remember that another important part to Romantic Compositions is within it's juxtaposition. Nothing should be obvious and nothing should be expected. Most importantly, you have to feel the music before expecting anyone else to.
