A fun minimalistic romp

Featured Replies

I dug up one of my old (circa 2002) ideas, and simply expanded on it - it had a minimalistic tendancy to it, so that's what the piece ended up being :D. So yeh, listen for the texture and microrhythms, not for the melody (ie, there isn't any).

Effective stuff. I like the way you fade the ideas in and out, but then again I guess that's truly the cornerstone of minimalism. Maybe some more rhythmic variation? Not that the effect you are already creating needs to be bolstered by this (it already holds up fine as it is), just a little suggestion. Also some more length might be in order if you want to turn it into a truly epic piece of minimalism.

Strangely more compelling than much of the cute stuff on this site, and I like a nice toon.

Also less length might be in order if you want to turn it into a truly epic piece of maximalism. :glare:

Thanks for the comments - this was just meant to be a straight, old-schoolish minimalistic sort of piece, and to that effect, I only used one "process" to drive the entire piece. Maybe I'll expand on it some more if I think of some other compatible ideas.

Hehe, I was actually thinking of making the piece "descent" back to the original starting point after that, and making the piece loop ad infinitum, but that might be a bit to obnoxius :).

Wow. My favorite part is how the piece actually changes not only dynamics but timbre/tone color as it fades in and out. Why does it end so suddenly?

Now that is neat, I really enjoyed this work. It calmed my headache just a tad:)

Some of your harmonic progressions do not seem complete(2:09) but you cover it up quickly and then sometimes leave it out in the open, i question this.

THe ending was great!

Thank you very much my head feels ligher:)

Wow this piece sounds like it is drilling into to my mind while i write & all i can think about is the rhythm

of the textured tones.I do not know really anything about minimalistic music but this sounds good to me.

It reminds me of a piece of music in an anime film called patlabor2,For some reason.

Although your piece of music is alot faster, has a different tone & texture.

I like this piece.

Thanks again. I forgot to post the more completed version, which basically doubles the length and instruments :) (the audio version also has a bit of reverb to ease the transitions a bit more). So here's

Hmm, this will sound a bit weird, but does anyone have the midi or audio version for this piece. After that server died, I kinda ended losing this piece, and it was one of the few pieces composed by myself that I actually genuinely enjoyed. If so, please post it here or pm me. Thanks in advance.

I can't access the file for some reason...

Yeah, like I said, the server has been dead for a while, and my personal copy is gone too, so if anyone might have downloaded and stored this (especially the midi file), please let me know if you haev it. Thanks.

I also can't read all the posts in a thread for some reason...

;) Good luck finding a backup.
