Etude #1

This is the first try I've given to create an Etude. It's very monotonous and everything, but I barely had 45 minutes to finish it. Yesterday I fixed a few things, but this could be considered a final version.

I actually have no idea if it follows the rules, or if it goes against all. I'd appreciate if someone could briefly explain them to me =)

It does serve as a study. But don't you think it's a bit too short ? You've got to realize that not everyone can churn out a masterpiece in 45 minutes. :thumbsup:

Anyway. You use the same harmonic progressions I - V -I -V throughout the Piece except at 13 seconds in the time frame where you modulate to the relative major by means of the leading note and then a descending scale progression back to the Tonic form the Dominant, like you said it does become monotonous - but I sometimes try to think of an "Etude" not just as a "Study" but as a Short Piece in itself. Its good that you have a strong idea about a Tonic - Dominant Relationship, but one must strive to do more than just that. I can suggest some books/websites to study "classical" forms - I'll PM them to you.

Overall. A bit too short & Monotonous but that can be justified in the the genre of "Study". "Nice - ish" piano writing especially the dotted-rythms.

Yes, it was a study. I didn't expect a masterpiece to come out of it. I actually don't expect one to come out of me. And, certainly, not in 45 minutes =). I'll try to create another one which is longer and with more variation.

By the way, if it isn't too much trouble, could you also tell me what kind of piece this is? I'm doing it for my game, but I think it's just a bunch of notes alltogether; sometimes it looks like a fugue, at others like a sonata, perhaps, of some sort, etc. This one has way more modulation than the one I uploaded. It's unfinished and I posted an earlier version in the forums, too.

Don't belittle yoursely. Why don't you expect a masterpice to come out of you ?

Listening to the 1st bar of this new piece I would say "Minuet" - If you want a definition based on meter.

Then it goes on to lose it's " Minuet " feel because you've got accompaniment in flowing quavers as opposed to crotchets marking the beat. I'd probably go with Minuet disregarding what I just said before.

This is one of those pieces that I like to play when nobody else is listening, because it forme would be a guilty pleasure. There's nota lot to it, but it's just plain fun. I especialyl loved that base line. Bum-BUM-Bum-Bum! :)
