Cirque Du Mort

Featured Replies

It's been a while since I've posted here for feedback or well, posted at all really. Anyway, this song is my latest piece entitled "Cirque Du Mort" (Circus of the Dead). Took me about 8 hours total to compose it and edit it. Anyway, feedback is much appreciated.

I suggest downloading the mp3 as you can't really hear the velocity changes all that well in the MIDI and the piano pedal doesn't work the same as it did with the piano sample I was using in the mp3.

Peace,

Zack

Wow! all i can say is Wow! I absolutly love this piece. The name is so fitting it truely sounds like the circus of the dead. The emotion in the piece is spectacular, and if someone would actually be playing live the emotion would be 100 times more amazing. I would love to play this piece for a recital! Do you think you could give me a copy of it.

The only thing i would change would be the ending. You have a motif like Eb C Eb C D B G (2 8th notes followed by 4 quarter notes or 2 16th notes folowed by 4 8ths depending on if its in 2 or 4) or somthing like that, and i would put it at the end and end with a G and not resolve it to leave us with a sense of wandering.

Hey Zack =)

It's been long since the last time we spoke! I really love this piece--although it reminds me more of an impedible nightfall. I've always admired your work; keep on posting more =)

Not sure I follow what you are talking about at the ending. I think you are probably suggesting what I originally had in mind by ending the song in G major instead of C played at an octave. Originally... I did stop it with G and the ritard on it was SOOOOOO much more impactful, but I took out some of the effect of the ritard and put the octave C there because well... I dunno. I felt the song just had to end. I play with that G chord constantly through out the song and not really resolving it into anything, making the song continue on and on, so I felt by putting that one little octave thing it would bring in simplicity where as the rest of the song really had none, giving the idea that all the craziness had come to an end and all is calm now. Like the sun had risen and the circus had come to an end until the next night would rise. However, I do see how I could still use that unresolved G chord at the end in a similar manner... but it's just how I ended the song.

Also, when I get the time I'll make up the sheet music for the song in Finale. I'd be honored to have someone perform it(I can only play bits and pieces of it).

Anyway, thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

Alonso: Definitely has been a while, nice to see you're still kicking.

Peace,

Zack

that would be amazing if you would get it done in finale; I actually have most of the song worked out on the piano already from listening to it. I was playing it before class today and my chior director who is a professional piano player really liked the song.

If you don't mind, I also listened to the other tracks on that site.

All I have to say is ... terrific!
