When the Moon Passes Through the Clouds

Featured Replies

Hello! Just joined here and I thought I'd share one of my recent pieces, currently called "When the Moon Passes Through the Clouds." Lethargic I know and same as the song. It's sort of a slow, pensive song with a faster section in the middle before returning back to the slow beginnings. The midi of course doesn't work so well, but it basically it's fine.

Took about five days to write. If you've got any suggestions or comments I'd love to hear. I'm a very amateur composer but I'm taking it next year in University so hopefully I'll be able to learn a lot more.

Thanks!

Well for an very amateur composer i think it was Good.

I'm glad you posted the midi because I couldn't get Scorcher to make any sound. This is a piece with many good musical ideas - I especially like the part beginning at about 2:12 - and shows you have considerable flair for composing.

The tempo might be a little slow - possibly too constant. Of course, the midi lacks some subtlety so it may be fine.

As a composition, I find structure wanders a bit by presenting some great ideas but then moving on too quickly to something else. My suggestion would be to do more (in the sense of variation and development) with a smaller set of ideas.

Euler that is precisely the criticism my teacher gave me when I played it for her and I do agree completely.

I will probably go back to rewriting in a week or so when I've had time to rethink it.

A flair you say? You are making me blush.

I don't know if it does this with your computer but on the midi, there seems to be a problem with the balance. The right hand is far too soft in parts.
