BATTLE THEME

Featured Replies

Here's a battle theme I wrote in 2 days. It's simple, yet has enough edge to build an adrenaline rush quickly. Any critiques or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! (this is my first attempt at any type of video game music or non-orchestral writing). Listen to the midi as well, since the instrumention is paramount to the overall sound of the piece, so it has to have the instrumentation written to sound right, since I don't know what other versions of Finale might do to it.

Definitely suspenseful....I'm, no expert, and I guess it dependso n what kind of game your playing, but I think it needs a bit more of a melody.

I also think it needs a bit of variation, like a 'bridge' section in the middle or something.

I liked the little choir bits you added in there, and the snare parts worked pretty well.

Thanks, that helps. I thought about that whole melody thing before I finished the piece, but I decided that I wanted it to be driven by the chord qualities and snare. I also thought about variating, but knowing myself, I'd probably span it out so much, that'd it'd have nothing to do with anything, then I'd try to fix it, and it ends up like every other composing of mine that's like 75% complete. Since I'm not the only person that had some concern with a melody, I'll look into it and see what I can develop. Thanks!

First off, I don't really think really sounds like a battle theme. I also think it's kind of boring that the whole song is simply repeated and there isn't really an ending either. Also, as Keerakh Kal said, it could probably use a melody.

Edit: I just realized the ending thing might be intentional, in case this is a loop. Is it?

it could use a melody, to me it sound like something about aliens.

Yes, Choir Ahhs! That sounds kinda sweet!

And ur Sitar i think it is, I like it, lol..

I enjoyed it...in a fun way ;) Good Job.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I like it, but it does seem to lack development and doesn't sound very battle-y. When I hear it, I see a Zelda like character, exploring a dark dungeon. It just gives off that vibe to me, I'm not sure why. But yeah, I definetly don't see a battle situation with this one. Maybe if you developed it a bit more then I could see this as a battle theme. Anyway, it's good but doesn't seem to fit the theme too well.

Sorry I haven't been able to answer in a while, I'm on vacation in Puerto Rico. Dave, I did intend it to be a loop. Well, I didn't want it to develop more, since I felt that it would be overly complicated. This is my first time composing something that is of the video game orient, so I wanted it to be something midi sounding that could be looped continiously while staying as incidental music. I admit, it may not be video game worthy, or battle worthy, but I do agree with Nirvana69 about it being used as background for a dungeon. My only concern with that, is that it's a bit too fast for background on a regular level, and the choir ahhs are a bit too dramatic/developed for a dungeon. I listened to the Zelda music, and it wasn't very complicated at all.

Anywho, I'm going to take the piece, and see if I can develop a bit more for it, since that is the main reccomendation I've gotten. I wanted to be different and make it more emotional than melodic, but this is my first attempt, so there's always room for improvement. Thanks for the help!!
