  1. hey sorry to be completely off topic but... What music theory did you need to learn to apply for the Royal Academy? Did you get in and take composition there? I'd really like to hear about your experience if you did. cheers!
  2. ok, writing as i listen... It opens really nicely, i like the broken spread chords (if thats the right term) this is really nice, I like the bit around 3:00 minutes nice little theme. I love how fluid this piece is too, it really would suit background music for a film or something like that. After about 4 mins, i too felt like i needed some kind of direction, its not bad at all, the right hand keeps the interest, although the standard rhythm in the left hand feels repetitive, BUT dont change it too much or you'll loose its nice fuidity. Could you give us some kind of background on yourself, how long have you been playing piano? how did you record this, is it you playing live? the piano has a lovely mellow sound. Im currently working on a piano & cello sonata and am going for the same simple mellow piano lines and harmony. overall its great and I like how it starts to get busy at about 7:50 lovely :) ... p.s. i must start listening to some Chopin, can you recommend anything similar to this?
  3. wow, i like the simplicity of it, and i cant believe how you made all that dissonance and chromatisism actually fit quite nicely:O
  4. hmm thats really nice, some parts are quite memorable like at 1:35, i just wished some of the bass notes earlier on were sustained for longer and not so disjointed so you get nicer harmonies. good stuff :P
  5. hey, Im currently working on my AS-level comp, and would really appreciate all the help you can give me. Im influence by Romantic/20th Century music, and ive written for Piano, Violin, Viola and Cello (although im actually a guitarist ;) ). I was going for an erie/mysterious feel. I know the 'Allegretto' section in the middle is a strong contrast to the rest of the piece, but i sort of liked it :D Its almost finished, i just need to bring the music back to the main idea at bar 23 and then go through and improve bits... Basically, How can i make this a better composition? I dont mind if your suggestions are to do with harmony/structure or anything else, ALL help is welcome thankyou ;) EDIT: You can here an mp3 of it HERE its nicer on the ears than midi p.s. excuse the cheesy title  and tell me if you cant hear the midi file piano & strings comp.sib piano & strings comp.mid
