  1. Hi Chopin, I think you're already aware of the limitations of this piece because of your own comments in the thread. Like all of your other piano works it's very beautiful - but I think the main problem is not so much the static harmony (though I would certainly prefer it if the harmony did move around a little bit more) - but the stylistic and harmonic incongruity between the melismas and the harmony - basically to my ears some of it sounds like Chopin (or possibly Lisztian) and the rest more like film score - and I'm not sure those elements really work together. Looking forward to the next piece.
  2. Not sure I understand your question... The key could only be one of two things based on the key signature - in your examples those are obviously C or its relative minor - A. True, the upper voice in your 2nd example could quite easily be in A minor, but the lower voice can't really because of the implied IV-V-I progression in C major. Not sure if that helps... I'm not 100% sure why this particularly bothers you - a lot of single line passages in tonal music suggest more than one key at any one time. That's often what makes it interesting - to eventually find out that the composer's harmonisation was not you expected but works nevertheless. Am I making sense?
  3. Anoliel - you still going to do these?
  4. Hi Anoliel, Well done this is mostly very good. Few minor corrections here for you to read and digest. After that - it's time to go onto this lesson and the homework below. Good luck! HW: Write 6 progressions, 3 in major keys and 3 in minor keys of your choice using root positions and first inversion chords and you may now incorporate chord vii in first inversion as shown in the lesson. End each progression with any cadence of your choice. Please keep them between 12-16 chords long in total. Matt
  5. Homework going OK?
  6. Well done! Full marks - excellent!
  7. Hi Anoliel sorry about the terrible wait. Here's the next lesson.
  8. Hi Anoliel sorry for the delay - just waiting to hear from one of my pupils who has an old lesson that I can give to you - will be ready soon!
