  1. Thanks for all the advice. I finally solved the problem, and found the solution very randomly. Basically, I'm using a EEE computer (netbook) which apparently tries to save energy by not using full capacity of its processor. All I did was put to "High Performance Mode" and the MIDI sounds are playing back perfectly as before, both on my notation software (capella 2004) and Windows Media Player. I didn't imagine, though, that MIDI took up so much processing power that such strange effects would happen. MP3s and everything else play properly also on "Saving Mode"... Anyway, thanks for everything! :-)
  2. OK. I think it has nothing to do with the soundbank, because I installed another audioplayer (QuickTime) and when I open the same file it produces totally different sounds... yet there is no new soundbank installed in the Audio options. Is there anything else that regulates the MIDI output? I also noticed that when I let my notation software play single notes, the sound is correct and clear... it's only when the whole midi file is opened that everything sounds strange!
  3. Could it be perhaps that there was another soundbank and it was disinstalled? What other soundbanks are typically on a Windows?
  4. Yeah I have that, with the exact number of KB as you stated. Yet the sound is completely different from what it used to be :(
  5. Yea, and it's the only available option I see.
  6. Hmmm but what exactly do I have to reinstall?
  7. Hi! Since a few days, I don't know for what reason, the sounds are totally different. Even when I play a normal MIDI file with Windows Media Player, it sounds totally different from how it used to sound before (different sounds, instruments and sometimes even time). I have absolutely no clue how this happened. Thanks in advance!
  8. "People of the North Pole" (or maybe there are different titles in the different regional editions? Whatever ;) ) Wow, I didn't know that Final Fantasy music was so popular among composers. Indeed, Nirvana: Wandering Shadows has it's identity though the influence of Hamauzu is very clear especially towards the middle (1:00). It sounds like you have tried to "stretch" that theme, which gives a sense of mystery, uncertainty, vagueness. I would definitely see this piece in a game as well
  9. Nice and tranquil piece, though some mystery is added by the strings. I tried to listen to the song without imagining what title (Flourishing Harbor) would evoke, and I thought that this might be well placed in a adventure or Roleplaying Game in the long sequences where the players are exploring/adventuring/wandering and looking for treasures. I think it's okay like this
  10. WOW! It sure is a boss battle theme. It could also be used as an intro of a symphonic heavy metal song  Did you actually work on the drumset with your midi program (Sibelius)?
  11. Thanks Euler. Thanks rolifer  I'll try to review other music as well - within the range of my know-how of course. Nirvana69, yes I fist composed them in MIDI and then converted it into mp3 only adding a "Chorus/Hall" effect. So far, that's more or less all I know to do technically, and I still have a long way to go in that. ;)
  12. My first composition here :) Ocean Passion Acoustic Piano. Flutes. Strings ensemble. Trumpet. I wrote this one long time ago for a role playing game setting my friends and I were crafting. I was thinking of an adventurer's ship sailing on calm and happy waters. When listening to it again, I sometimes recall the music from the famous videogame "Final Fantasy". Please feel free to put it into the context of your own imagination and broader musical knowledge :) Hope I can get some feedback on my style and techniques. Thank you!
  13. Really nice! If it was in a videogame, I'd place it at the beginning or the end (credits) of the game (I think I got this impression because of the drum beat you use). The melody alone is really wonderful and would fit in anywhere :)
