  1. I don't think Art can exist without an Artist, but I'm using the word 'Artist' fairly loosely. I would call a piece written by John Cage using results of chance Art, because he conciously chose to take these random results, convert them into another form, and show it to others. Similarly I would call music created by converting statistics about the Earth's orbit Art because someone had chosen to use the statistics that way, although, not being religious, I wouldn't call the Earth's orbit itself Art. So I guess I would consider anything that has been deliberately created to be seen (although not used) by others as Art. Although possibly not good Art... So, following on from this, I would see a piece of music written to imitate another style as Art in it's own right.
  2. It would be nice to see the tune (assuming you had one in mind) but I like the lyrics very much, especially the last verse. Personally I think "most guys cheat, most guys betray" would sound better in the second verse, but that's just my opinion.
  3. My understanding is that he assigned a colour to each key like this (not distinguishing between major and minor):
  4. When the left hand part comes in under the octave runs... maybe you could try starting each note at the end of an octave (at the beginning of a bar) instead of at the beginning? Just an idea.
  5. The first is an idea for a song, although I can't think of any lyrics and don't have a way to record them anyway. Here.sib Out of time.sib If anyone could make any suggestions for how I could improve I would be very grateful! Also, I probably should have uploaded my previous pieces onto this section. Sorry, it didn't occur to me.
  6. Thanks for pointing that out! I tried attaching them again, hopefully it should work now.
  7. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, as it started out as a piano piece but because I didn't think it was interesting enough I added saxophone, acoustic bass and maracas parts. It's a gentle piece based on a simple ostinato. It's meant to describe the feelings of someone watching a city from a high rooftop. Rooftop.mid Rooftop.sib
  8. I liked Melodi2, although it's simple it's a nice piece to listen to. Maybe you could put in a contrasting section to add some variety? Sorry I haven't listened to the others yet :)
  9. I'm thinking of doing the same thing... do you mind if I ask what you are studying at university?
  10. It sounds nice, and I like the dynamic contrast, but I think it would be better if some parts were taken a little slower.
  11. I wrote this a while ago, I hope you like it. Last dance.sib Last dance.mid
  12. It's very good, I liked the interplay between the parts, and I thought the cello part kept the piece moving forward well. It would be nice to hear it performed properly though.
