Tips for writing an orchestral soundtrack piece?
Hi Everyone, I'm planning to write a orchestral soundtrack piece, and I'm wondering how you guys create something like that. I'm in the possession of some nice samples, so that shouldn't be a problem, but I have no idea how one starts creating a piece for all those instruments involved with an orchestra. I do have a general 'blueprint' of where I want to go with the piece, which I recorded here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vrcfenn08wzjnct/Impro0.3.mp3 and although I have some small idea's on how I want to translate it to something for an orchestra, I have no idea how to get started. Any tips on how to work up to something as complex as a orchestral piece are very much welcome. I'm also wondering what kind of workflow works for you :). Greetings, Bas

Icarus Flies
Hey JijGaat, What a great piece! I especially love the transition at 1:12-1:22. I can't really say anything about the mixing, because I've just started learning that myself. But in my ears it sounded very convincing and professional. Please extend it! Gr, Vla

Invention 1 (dodecaphonic)
Hi Roy, I know nothing about dodecaphonyness, so i take your ancient rules for granted. I still think its a very interesting piece though. The concept of the various voices and the relation between them is something I haven't heard before, so I had to listen to it a couple of times to get used to it, But i think I like it. I'm still missing some dynamics, like you pointed out already, but overall I think its a striking piece that brings its message over well. Hope to hear more from you! Gr, Vla

Fair Game
Wow, I really like this! I have to agree with everyone else, this asks for more. I love the panning. It gave a sensation of being in a big factory with stuff moving everywhere around. Good job! Gotta look into that stylus RMX thing.

Fusion
Hi everyone, First a little about me. I've been playing around with music composing for a year now, but never made a serious attempt to create a complete song. This time i want to compose something that is complete and in the end well polished. The song is a mix of orchestral, electronic and rock things. Its a work in progress, but I would love to hear what you think about it so far and what can be improved. Any critic or comment is welcome! Fusion Greetings, Vlaflip p.s. The guitar part is a placeholder that is going to be replaced with a better sounding and better played piece by a friend of mine :P p.s.s. This topic should have been in the incomplete works forum. Can someone please move it?

First composition ever
Hey, My first musical thing I created. I still need to add an ending and do something with harmony, but I wanted to show it to you anyway. I had the idea about adding some guitar/drum rocky thing at the end but not sure how I'm going to do that :whistling:. Please tell me what you think about it so far and how I can improve it. My theory knowledge is limited so critique and tips are very appriciated :). Greetings comp1.MID comp1.MUS
