Variations on "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" (NOW WITH PDF ALSO!!!)
My favorite variation is the second variation. I like polyphony, when you can place the original melody in bass and write new, higher part. But this is also good. When I listened to it, I concentrated on the triplets. You should make your accompaniment more dense.

Suggestions for new collaborative projects
I can suggest the variations. Somebody will give the original melody and every user of the forum would write a variation or several ones. So, we can compose a large set of variations (please read about Diabelli Variations).

Variations on a Polish theme
I did not changed only the melodic contour and the melodic rhythm. Some of the variations have other mode (theme is major, several variations are minor) and time signature (theme was 2/4, several variations are in 3/4). In one of the variations I placed the melody in bass. The accompaniment of the theme was dull, because not the theme, but variations are main attraction. There must be a contrast because very simple original melody and characteristic variations. Theme do not has to be beautiful and magnificent, it is the feature of variations. And...my favorite variations are typically classical ones "Ah vous dirai je maman" written by Mozart.

Scherzo for Flute and Pizzicato Strings
The music is light, airy and can be used as an intermezzo. I like especially the harmony. I think it is an entertainment music, but the harmony makes it more interesting and not typical (it is not a disadvantage). The piece may be played as a theatrical music, which illustrates e.g. comedies. The time signature could be emphasized with accents for a first part of the bar. It is composed (I think) in a style of divertimentos.

How do you usually start making your own composition?
Before commencing my own composition, I like improvise something. When I will create an interesting melodic theme, which is usually too short for a composition, I wait and endeavor to find other themes. When I have an enough amount of ideas, I fit the harmony and try miscellanous chords. When the chord progressions are ready, I create a pattern. I do not possess a habit to write the articulation and dynamics. And, the composition is transcribed into MIDI, I can correct the errors, which were heard by me. The piece is ready.

i dont know any musical theory
If You want to compose and thus express feelings, in other words, if the composition has to be unique and possess your own style, You can create your own theory. It is the matter of trying and experimenting on harmony, melody and other parts of musical piece. You can possess Your favorite chord progressions and cadences and simply use it! If You very like works of a certain composer, you should read the sheet music, listen to it and, maybe there will be an excellent chord progression or type of accompaniment. You can use it. But do not copy works of other composers, try to create your style and your composed pieces, which you will proud of.

Ah vous dirai - simple melody with 9 chords
I tried to harmonize that melody with 9 chords. What do you think about that harmony? Is it better than basic chords (tonic, subdominant and dominant)? ah vous dirai je maman.mid

Your Favorite Key!
My favorite major key is Es-dur (E flat major). It is used by many romantic composers to write bravura and splendid pieces (Balakirev's Concerto, Quidant's Grande Etude Galop), which can make a great impression. And minor key - d-moll (d minor) - very sentimental and typically minor key. If I want to play or listen to light, airy music, I use D-dur (D major). It was frequently a key of many symphonies of Classical period, which are light and entertainmental.

Rules are really strict and You obeyed them. This is not an magnificent piece of music, but a sample of Your accomplishments. I think You would create magnificent Renaissance composition.

What is currently your favorite piece of music?
My favorite piece of music is third movement of the first Mahler's Symphony. It is a Trauermarsch (funeral march) and i like it because of the moderate mood, very calm. I like particularly two themes. First is the canon "Frere Jacques" and its variation. The second theme is played after the canon, it is more lively and sentimental.
