  1. Thanks rolifer, to be honest I absolutely hate mixing. It's like one of those brick walls I just keep running into. It's a slow learning process, but I am still hopeful. :)
  2. I thought it was very well done and shows a lot of talent on your part. I was especially fond of the drums solos and awesome jazzy fills throughout the film. You synced your cues up very well!:)
  3. Thanks for the listen Leeran, and you're right - these tracks are still in the tracking phase. The only effects or processing on them are filters and a tad bit of reverb. I am still working on getting my older stuff together first. I just seem to write stuff faster than I finish it.
  4. As the others said above, great work. There wasn't one piece that I didn't like and I listened to them all. I really like the minimalistic feel and I didn't feel like anything was lacking. Were the acoustic guitar parts in our island theme tracked live or was it a good virtual instrument - if it was virtual, you did very good job conveying accurate acoustic performance! Great material man, I look forward to hearing some more of you work.
  5. Thanks for listening Jared, and I appreciate the comments. I did have a chance to listen to some of your work as well, and I like it a lot. Sounds like you are getting into some subtle electronica yourself on a couple of pieces - at least in the percussive and atmospheric parts. There are a lot of very catchy and atmospheric string parts that, coupled with the light moonlit piano arrangements, come out very nicely.:D I would say you have dark, dramatic mystery down very well. I would love to know what tools and libraries you are working with. EDIT: By the way, John Williams is completely awesome...period. :D P.S. - Yes, the guitar work was me, but I don't consider it good. hehehe - I just get by.
  6. I am still in the early tracking and mixing stages, but I thought I would see what you guys think of "Smashing Life" and "Tonight" on my new Black album. Tonight is more of a smooth electronica piece where as Smashing Life is a soundtrack-oriented work. Take your pick and tell me what you think. :) Listen Thanks
  7. The poor samples you used gave this little justice, but from a strictly compositional standpoint, I see promise in what you could do with piece with a little more time and some more realistic samples. Plus watch your quick volume slider jumps - there were a few noticeable jumps in mix volume near the end of the piece, but not the kind from the samples or your MIDI velocity.
  8. I liked this piece it had that eerie child-like dark theme going for it. The exaggerating swells are a pretty nice touch, especially when you conclude them with some woodwind and tingling piano fills. I am not sure I agree with the first guy to post though, I am way too big a fan of both David Bowie/Trevor Jones' work on Labyrinth and the music of The Dark Crystal - and I didn't see much relation, but it did come out very well and shows that you have a very persistent and knowledgeable approach to arranging.
  9. Very nice piece. This reminds me of my earlier stuff so I can totally see what you were doing with this, and I see it as standing alone very well without vocals. Of course we all could do with a bit more experience in theory and with the tools of the trade, but the point is you are making an effort to get there. :)
  10. Very nice and relaxing piece, were those Voices of Passion samples in the beginning? The overall atmosphere is very consistent with its imagery and I can see this setting the stage of an emotional cut scene in a game. I aspire to create music for games as well - although you have the jump on me. :)
  11. Nice set of work, may I ask you which sound libraries you were using? There is a very wide range of dynamics and the compositions are strong. I am especially fond of the quick moving piano and violin parts in some areas as well as the cello in others.

The sounds were already mentioned, but that's just because your arranging ability/familiarity in the genre is so novice. However, I can clearly hear you have a very beautiful set of skills for arranging orchestral and instrumental music. I am a fan of mixing schools of thought, and I was not at all turned off by this piece, but it was not your average Electronica. Again, you definitely are someone I could learn from when it comes to orchestration and arranging for instrumental pieces.:D

Love the intro. It had a very eerie "ethereality" to it. Especially love the laughing underneath and the heavy bass drum beating into the chasm of space you have created. Overall, I liked it - very nice comp for a game or film scene. :)
  14. Really cool vibe, but the reverb is real heavy. That's not so much a crit as just a mention - I am sure you wanted a lot of very big and ambient space. :P I really like the rhythmic feel of the piece, it had a very forward momentum and you would drop th emotion every once in a while to move forward yet once again. Very nice. :)
  15. Thanks for the listen M.E. - I have heard that same crit on the drum part around 2:40 a couple times. I might need to do some reworking. The song isn't finished yet, so I am open to suggestions. I definitely agree with you on the out of place acidic vibe that it creates...don't know what I was thinking when I wrote it. I write most of my stuff late at night so I was probably in the far-zone. :)
