String quartet for my mam

Featured Replies

My mums birthday is coming up soon, and so as any other starving musician would have done, I wrote her a song. This is the first time I've tried writing anything like this, so I'd like some feedback and suggestions on how to improve it. Also the end part is where the song is going to become more electronic, and hopefully contain vocals, just in case you were wondering why I had drums.

For some reason, Sibelius will not play this. Can you post a MP3?

I am uploading the .mp3 now. Though isn't it possible to just play the .mid with windows media player, or whatever program you use?

I can play the midi as a midi file thru winmedia, I just hate the sound of midi. I can open the midi with Sibelius and see a score, for some reason sib will note play the notes. It has something to do with what format you are using when you save a midi file. In sib, if I have the kontakt player queued up to play and export a midi, the sounds are not right. I have to export a midi with kontakt off.

About the music. You have a nice melody that is addicting. The only problem is you really never change from it. The variations are so subtle that it still sounds as if the same melody is playing for 7 minutes. It might help if you do a key change or introduce a second melody or cut the length.

Last thing... some people do not read other people's comments. so you may want to put the MP3 in the 1st post.

I like it. Its really cool.

I like the building in the beginning nad the the great mix of the melody from then on.

Great job for your first time.

Added the link, to the first post.

My music teacher said the same thing, I was considering cutting down the length a bit. But I'm not quite sure how I'd go about that. I may have to start from scratch and just use the same melody. Also the reason it's fairly consistent is because my music usually changes too often, so I wanted to do something nice for mum, but I guess I ended up going to the other extreme and made it too repetitive. Thanks for the input guys, I'll see how I go.

edit: Actually scrap that, I'm going to change the main theme in the parts that it repeats, just enough to keep it interesting.
