Libera Me (...from my Requiem!!)

Featured Replies

Ok. My Requiem is almost here. The thing that has kept me occupied over that past few months...I am really, really excited about it and I just can't contain myself, to be honest. I decided to give you all a sneak peak...but the best is yet to come.....

Anyways, this is the Libera Me. It is going to be second to last, right before the last movement, In Paradisum. There are a lot of nuances in here that Finale and the mp3 just don't do justice to, so if you don't understand anything, or think that something is awry, let me know!

And also, any voicings on your opinion would be most valued! Please enjoy!!!

(P.S.)

On both the MIDI and on Finale, a rumbling noise appears randomly, and it's not a timpani roll, even though it sounds like one. Also, in the choral parts, the voices seem to crack and go in and out of piano and forte. This all may only be on my computer, but if it's on yours, it's not supposed to be this way!

P. P. S.

Right before the chorale in the middle, what sounds like the violin section is really a flute solo.

Here is the (horrible) MP3. The voices sound like strings and crack and sound shaky. Sorry...but I don't know what to do!

MP3: Libera Me.wav

the reason your chorus sounds cracky and shaky is that you have them sharing a channel.

HumanPlayback is trying to make each staff "expressive" by adding swells and whatnot, but since 3 staves are sharing a single MIDI channel this creates conflicts. try simply giving S - A - T different channels.

Ok. Well...I did that but it's only going to help in this situation.

Here is the newer, un cracky version:

Medieval moods... a mistery is about to be revealed!

Look forward to hear the whole Requiem.

Interesting solemn choir.

Well.. I like the atmosphere ot this piece, but I would probably see it a little bit different..like..Fot me the "Libera me" is aksing God for making my soul free, and I think it should be more.. happier, not like Kyrie (This should be sad) but more like Gloria, or Hossana.. I

The Libera Me, as I see it, is begging god to save you from death. It's the final plea, the darkest hour. I don't think I have ever heard a happy setting of the Libera me.

I am a bit unfamiliar with the Requiem concept and it's themes so here goes my comment on the music.

I think that you have a nice expressive music here. I didn't liked the 16th note riffs at the instrumental section. I think that it kind of destroyed the atmosphere for me. But when the chorus enters, its so expressive! I liked it. There is also some nice harmonies at the chorus. Much better than the instrumental introduction in my opinnion. I think that you could work a little more on the introduction but the chorus is just lovely as it is.

Thanks for your comments!

The sixteenth notes are there for purely filler reasons because I wanted to have those long sustained notes in the strings and bell sounds from the tubular bells and the piano, but without the sixteenth notes, it's really empty. The sixteenth note phrase is also based on one of the central themes of the requiem, so it's not just random, but I can't find anything else to put in that slot. Do you have any suggestions?

EDIT:

Also, here is a better, updated MP3.

Greets, Tyler,

a requiem, huh? Yummy! Let's see what you've got...

1) Wow! This is very good! VERY appropriate for the requiem setting! Very dark atmosphere, the anguish can be felt even in the mediocre rendering!

2) You could update the first link with the edited mp3.

3) The middle brass section worked great! Very solemn...

4) From 28-41, the choir sounds beautiful, but a bit cluttered at places...maybe it's the awful rendering, The pedal E's on the bass worked miracles (although it craved to go down to d afterwards), but the perpetually closed voicings (not to mention the tenors too close) probably create this problem. Also, m.34, quite problematic! The tensions didn't resolve and not to you favor. Just my opinion, though!

I am VERY looking forward to your completing the requiem...this sneak peak made me drool! Maybe a major work...? :D

Kudos!

:P

I can't remember the last time I've so many changes is time signature...;)

Nice atmospheric effects. I'll let Verdi know you'll be usurping his Best Requiem to Date title.......................

Once again bows to the talent of oboehazzard. Well, I kind of guessed you would be an alright composer, considering you play the oboe. All oboists are perfect beings, everyone knows that.

But in now complete seriousness, keep the 16th notes, but maybe fill the last beat of your 5/4measures with some more 16ths or 8ths.
