The egg - Video

Featured Replies

There was a competition to score the following short clip (2 minutes long). And I attempted it, lost, but I really think that my entry was AWESMOE! :P:D

Either way here are the two clips:

http://www.cgempire.com/music/EWcontestNikolasSideris.mov

http://www.nikolas-sideris.com/stuff/EWcontestNikolasSideris.mpg (smaller mpg, with... almost simmilar quality)

I am quite proud of my entry, to be honest! I did do my best, and went in a very peculiar and unique way of, both approaching the short, and mainly production...

In order to give a bit of more info about my entry and how I went that way (in case anyone is interested):

All I'm using are piano and string sounds! I manipulate the audio, through Cubase and various means and plug-ins to get the result you're seeing/hearing.

Please enjoy :P

That was very interesting music, as much as ambience is concerned, but I though it a bit inappropriate to the visual content and the emotional texture provided bu the video...

Excellent!!!! I thought it followed the content and the texture. The emotions you instilled into the piece are fabulous. Is that an anti-war theme in there as well? You hit all the cues dead on. The only thing I see wrong at all is it needs to be about 5 seconds longer for a fade out.

Yes indeed it is AWESMOE!...??.. Well not really , but it is AWESOME!!! (Just the teacher in me coming out). As if I can criticize at all, seeing how I speak only one language.

Very well done! I loved it. I believe the term is electroacoustic music. I never actually tried to do this kind of music but I can tell you that you made it excellent!! You synchronized the music well with what was going on. But I agree about the fade out with rolifer. Was that the way you intended it to finish ?

Mano: Thanks for posting. Can you ellaborate a bit, please?

Ron: I always use awesmoe and tpyo. These are my two intentional tpyos. The rest are normal ones...

Inal (and Ron): the non fade out, and suddent "death" is intentional all the way!

Thanks for downloading and watching guys :whistling:

I noticed. I just wnated to give you a hrad tmie. But you always do maths as well.

Nikola, it is hard to put into words, but the music was very ambient, mysterious and atmospheric with the intense moments while the video asked for something more intense and throat-grabbing...

I hope I am getting through...

I thought the music was great and in the main matched the video very well which would have been tricky as the video is very chaotic. But when the tentacled blobs first appear close up falling, then in a fog, and then the lake with the reflections appears, I didn't think the music tracked the video as well as before - not a strong sense of falling, nor of fog, and not a big change in texture of the music when the lake first appeared. Also the video freezes for a moment before the head falls to the sand but the music goes on. Well, these aren't big discrepancies if they are such at all as this is a very subjective kind of judgement.

Wow! What did they pick over this?

I love this, really interesting manipulation of the sounds.

Although I must agree with Euler on one point, I think there should be more of a change when it comes to the lake scene...

First of all! And most importantly!

trevuar25: Welcome to YC. I don't know long you have been lurking here, or if you're completely new, but if you research a bit, on Manossg posts, you will see that he always attempts to give proper feedback to people. Furthermore he is a GOOD friend, and remember that I asked him to provide a bit further feedback, for which I'm thankful.

Thanks all, for the comments. :) I went to the completely other side, to have everything calm. BTW, that is not fog, but an underwater scene

I mean compaired to the raugh, electronic sounds, the chaotic nature of the music, some string chords, and calm harmony, completely tonal, is a change, for me at least, and knowing that the "being" was going to die, never went to a happy place in music. The one "bursting of feelings" from the "being" was more than enough for it to die, and same goes with the music.

If you consider that the coming on the world is tha part right when the colours enter (the vivid red ones, around the middle), then death reminds that part very much (same cluster in the end), as life is a circle, and hopefully that "being" will come back to life in a while, maybe taking a different turn somewhere... :)

Everyone is a critic

That's the purpose of this forum. You can enjoy you and your friends complimenting each other in your other bookmarked sites.

Btw, doesn't your comment make you a critic as well? Damn hypocrites...

Yeah I know, I am a hypocrite. :P Maybe I read your feedback as sort of somewhat insulting when you said it was hard to put into words, when you probably meant the music could have been more powerful. and I commented back like a fool calling you a critic. but hey that's music, sometimes the emotions just take over. haha :P

Great isn't it? I submitted my interpretation to...but I didn't win either.

I find this video pretty awesome, and the music you composed fits it very well. Everything was on cue. I especially liked the part where the aliens were flying down. Pretty interesting music.

BTW, I'm pretty interested in looking at the winners submission. This is really good already. :)

Nikolas - there have only been a few times where I've felt compelled to tell the composer what an excellent and brilliant piece of music they've made. This is one of those times.

This is absolutely wonderful.

I hope you don't take this as an insult, but it reminds me a lot of The Ring.
