Multi Track recording studio software

Featured Replies

I am looking at upgrading the recording software that I currently use but I am not sure what software to use.

Preferable I would like to use a good multi track software that can seperate all the tracks.

What Would Anyone Reccomend?

Thanks Melodeonman. :D :stoicjedi:

Are you looking for audio and midi, or just audio? And how much are you willing to pay?

Hi Mark,

I am looking for both Midi and Audio.

So far the only software I have looked at is Magix Music Studio

I am willing to pay any amount of money because I am willing to get the best software.

Thanks Melodeonman :w00t:

Ok.

Mark, thanks for asking.

Now melodeonman:

Start from dead cheap and moving up.

REAPER | About (Repear. Shareware, not completely free but it has no limits in it's trial. Just download it and run it. Licenses cost the absolute minimum really). Only for PC Price: non commercial: 40$, commercial: 200$

Cakewalk (Sonar. Commercial, PC only. Great program with great things on. Many use it commercially.) Prices vary from 229

Hi Nikolas,

I have been using a software called anvil studio which is a cheap downloadable software and also I have use Magix notation which was very temprimental. I will look around those different softwares and shall read the reviews.

Thanks for the advice

Cheers

After you read all this (which should take you quite some time), see what demos are out there, and try them out.

But anything you need just ask.

You would want to check

i. how many tracks can the DAW handle. Others can handle unlimited others are limited to 48...

ii. plug-in support. For example Cubase 4 (as far as I remember from when it came out, don't know if they fixed that), does not support direct x plug-ins. Not a great big deal, but it is something

iii. plug-ins/vsts it has. Some come bare, others come with tons of plug-ins. Logic has an excellent choice of top plug-ins. Usually you dont' need to buy any plug-in after that. Cubase always needs some top op.

iv. Audio support, etc...

v. Score editing possobilities. Some have, others don't.

etc...

compair, see, and for anything, just ask.

Yeah, Sorry About That Nikolas :D,

Didn't have a definite budget when I first posted :P but yes as you say, I am in the UK and I am indeed a PC User but some stuff will work on both Mac and PC.

I shall look at all those sites and from what you have said they should work with my computer so when I decide what to use I shall let you know how I get on with them.

Sorry About That Mate.

Thanks For All The Help You Given Me

Cheers

MultitrackStudio - Audio/MIDI Multitrack Recording Software

Hi,

For PC on your budget I would recommend either Reaper or Sonar Home Studio 6. Download the free version of Reaper and try it out (you might need to find some free midi soft-synths if you want to try out midi recording) Sonar also has a Web Trial, but it is missing a couple of the soft synths that come with the actual product. I would recommend Sonar Home Studio as I have a copy myself. Sonar and Reaper have similar features, but the interface with Sonar is a bit cleaner IMO, and it adds things such as a basic staff-view, which is useful if you can read music. Sonar HS is limited to 64 audio tracks (from memory) but has unlimited midi tracks, which is probably adequate for most people.

I wouldn't forget to mention Adobe Audition. This is really a good one, with incredible sound, works with tons of audio formats, spectrogram with editing capabilities, efficient effects, the best noise reduction I've ever seen, lots of amplitude editing possibilities, dynamic effects, and everything very easy-to-use... I love pan and volume editing in the mix stage.

Indeed audition is a great program, but generally, in my mind, I hold it more like a "mastering", or "restoration" program, rather than a sequencer... I know that it has multitrack possibiliteis with v. 2, but somehow I still would buy it for it's mastering abiltiies more than anything else...

Of course Nikolas, absolutely true. Not for sequencing. Just one thing: not only mastering but also editing and mixing.

Another good programm is Sony Acid Pro
