I don’t know what constitutes rag, but what you have here certainly has a “rag feel” to it. If I just heard this piece and had to classify it I’d probably call it rag.

I think you’re on the right track.

If you can open midi files in your sheet music program you might try opening some rag that you like and take a look at how they wrote it to produce the effects that you’d like to create.

Hello!

I think it sounds fine. Who cares if it's just a 'quasi-rag' or perhaps indeed a 'non-rag' according to classification - just write what you feel a rag should sound like. And tell the critics to shove it up their hiney if they somehow think it's not ''real'' ragtime!! The piece has a charming, idiosyncratic and ''delightful monotony'' feel to it so far, but this can't go on - you have to be more adventurous (especially harmonically) as you progress.

Stating a charming, slightly monotonous theme (as you have here) and variating it with some more complex rhythms and harmonic patterns later on would make for a fascinating composition! I'm a sucker for organic music...

thanks!i'm trying to compose the next bit of the melody...not very adventures so far lol but im working on it

You need to fix the notation... I would change the left hand to staccato 8th notes.

You also need to fix the rhythm in the right hand from m.5-m.7, use tied 16ths between beats 3 and 4. M.8 has the same issue, but in both hands... beat 3 is not visible.

The left hand in m.8 is very awkward, I would re-voice it.
