GPO in Audacity

This might be a little tough since its so specific, but I'd appreciate any help I can get.

So basically I write a piece in finale using GPO and save it as an audio file. But when I try and import it into audacity for further editing it scrambles everything. I can import soft synth audio files no problem, but (obviously) GPO is better. Can anyone help me? Am I missing a codec? Is this a common problem? Thanks in advance.

What format of audio file are you saving to in Finale? That would be really helpful to know, otherwise it's really hard to say why you're having problems.

Ah yes, I was wondering. I never had a problem importing my audio files into audacity for post editing. I'm using Sibelius, but I guess it doesn't really matter. I save the files as wav files, and import them into audacity to convert them to mp3 or something.

Thats exactly what I'm doing. .Wav files made from Finale Soft Synth work fine, but they turn into a short, high pitched tone when made with GPO.

Well I can't really help you. My files, even though they're made with GPO, sound fine,... But maybe there's a difference, because Finale uses VSTi? I'm not sure, sorry...

My suggestion is that you try recording just a single track for starters, and see if that works or not. If it doesn't, the problem is probably with your GPO. If it does, the issue is that you're trying to save more tracks at a time than your computer is capable of successfully writing - basically, you're overworking the machine. This can be true even if it sounds fine playing back. Just because it can manage to play back, doesn't mean it can also manage to WRITE that much audio information as well.

Mairus, Does Finale have real-time exporting? If it does this could solve the problem of overworking...

Yes, that's the standard, Nik. When you save as audio with any sound library, it does it in real time. It only speeds things up when you're saving with the SoftSynth soundfont.

I would go with Marius' suggestion...although I've never encountered this problem with Sibelius and GPO, or Cubase and Colossus. If I were you I'd try finding another program a demo of a program or something like that to import your file into...to see if it's just a problem with Audacity or your files in general.
