Harpsichord Quartet in C Minor

Featured Replies

Hey everybody...

This is the first movement of my Harpsichord quartet for Harpsichord, Flute, Oboe, and Bassoon in C Minor. Yeah, I got bored one day and this sort of popped out.

Oh well...

I just hope somebody can critique it, seeing as how I am relatively new to composing (only about 3 months...)

Anyways, I hope you don't hate it too much...

A pleasant piece!

It has some medieval touch and some baroque too, here and there.

I only find the agitated part from 01:17 to 01:36 to be a little "off" the piece. It doesn't last long enough to be a development, it just lands there with no presentation nor adaptation to the rest of the piece. If this were a nonsensical piece, or one filled with things like this, it'd pass. But in such a sober mood, it doesn't fit.

That's the only critic I have. It still is nice!

Cheers!

This is a great start to composing. I'm assuming you aren't that new to music, since this shows some understanding of theory. I don't think that the harpsichord solo at the end in the harmonic minor really fit, and kind of disrupted the flow. But other than that, you show a really good understanding of music for only composing three months. Stick around, you will learn a lot.

i agree with berlioz with the near end harpsicord part, but i did think it sounded good. maybe develop it more? beings how short it is doesnt make it fit, but with development i think you would have a much stronger piece of music

very nice piece. i liked the harpsichord solo towards the end, it sounds like a recitative passage between the other sections. just i think it creates a need of a longer development after it, and maybe a return in some place ahead in order to create a stronger structure. anyway it is a very enjoyable composition with a noble feel.

Thank you all so much for your critique!!!

Hopefully I can fix that solo section, and make it into something better.
