Toccata, Op. 1

Featured Replies

Okay, I took this first piece of my life very seriously. I already made 24 pieces of music, but none of them would I want to add to my Opus.

This is the first piece I would like to add to my serious works.

I really like Toccatas in general like Ravel, Prokofiev, Debussy, Bach, Ginastera (last movement of his sonata) and so on.

This Toccata was primarily based on the harmony of Uehara, Barber and Ginastera. The accents were based on Prokofiev in general.

The structure is ABA. The piece is in Re minor.

It is a very difficult piece, I can't play it myself right now. ;)

But I plan to master it.

In the future I think I will put this piece in a Video Game as a battle music. Maybe I'll orchestrate it too.

To be honest, I didn't listen to anybody you mentioned, only Bach.. What I like a bout this tune is BASSES :) I mean that it sounds kinda powerful.. cool. :)

I like the feel of this piece... it sounds very tense and dramatic. I agree with green minstrey, the bass was well done and fitted the mood. I enjoyed the ending too. This piece is way beyond my skill level, but then again, that's what makes it a toccata.:)

Do you think this song makes a chance in the Queen Elisabeth Competition? As a compulsory piano piece in the semi final. I at least want to participate. :P

Katchum, we are who we are, I don't see any obsticle why shouldn't you participate in this Competition. :) If I was you, I would compose something more traditional on this purpose, especially dancable :)

I liked the ending, this was a very cool piece to listen to. The beginning created tension and the bass fitted the song nicely!

-Smartyy!

p.s... I tried to open the score, but the link said it didn't exist.. ?

Looks like Divshare has some problems.

Marvelous work. All I'd say is that it could use a counterbalance - it's good as is, but remains very active throughout, there is no relief, no "downplay" or contrast section that I can hear. You have managed to retain pretty distinctive themes and develop them well, despite there being so much chaos and seemingly random stuff going on, and that ain't easy.

A delight to listen, thanks for posting.

Very nice and energetic, you kept it going a throughout.

The way you created tension was very well done, and the rhytm was kept well throughout.

A counterbalance would be good though.

Very good.
