Little Piece for Piano - Jagdlied

Featured Replies

That's a small piece for piano and it was one of my first pieces. I was inspired by a poem about a hunting song (for those who speak German: Eichendorff - Gedichte: Jagdlied ).

Thanks for your rewievs, may they be positive or negative.

for a start, there is no piano here, why did you a) write 'a little piece for piano' and b) post it under 'Piano and Solo Keyboard???

that aside it is a charming little piece, just be careful of what you write / where you put it, next time

This is a nice little piece, yet, no piano. Be careful of where you post your topics.

I don't know why it is no piano... I wrote it for piano, and if I click on the Sibelius sheet, it plays it as a piano... The midi file plays it as a drum set, but I don't know why, and I have seen it today for the first time.

So the topic is on the right place, but for some reasons, it isn't played as a piano. If you have any other comments about the piece, they're welcome.

I like the main theme a lot. It's very bouncy and cheerful. A fairly listenable piece overall, as well. My two complaints:

1. Your dynamic markings seem a little off to me. They feel sort of random, if you know what I mean. Consider using them more sparingly, and placing them more judiciously.

2. A lot of the transitions feel awkward and abrupt. Try smoothing things out; giving the piece an overall sense of coherency. Easier said than done, of course. Try studying the works of other composers, to see how their pieces are put together. You might also be interested in reading this (free) ebook on musical structure:

Thanks a lot Jesuswaffle... Yes I wasn't sure about the dynamics, and in the other file I had, I had put them away. And yes, I thought the transitions were too abrupt, but I wanted to be sure, by asking you guys.

And thanks for the ebook, I already knew it, and had already printed it out, but I didn't have the time to read it yet.

A bit repetitive but not bad at all.

Bouncy...

Quite good first piece.

Keep composing and learning.

Everytime you finish something you'll learn from it and improve in skill and confidence. I think that's true for everyone regardless of experience level.
