O Canada. Project Re-Opened!

Featured Replies

Wow, it have been ages since I wrote my first arrangement for O Canada. I just recently re-opened project III, and wanted your imput on it. I still suck at arranging, and I need to start composing things of my own. Please listen to them and give some feedback.

Hello guys,

Here are the "arrangements" I have written so far for O Canada, excluding (Testing Grounds I) as a test in Finale, and perhaps V.2, but maybe not. Take a look and tell me how should I improve on these?

Now I want to start composing but I have a huge project of arranging O Canada in different styles.

Since I was stupid enough to record the V.2-B in mp3 file I'll show links to download them:

be careful when you establish a rythmic pattern that is extremely active as you did in (#3 I think? there are only two .MUS files, so the second one) that you don't suddenly stop the rythme in the middle of phrases.

these are basically variations on a theme, aren't they.

It would be interesting to see something a little bit more in depth... taking elements of the theme and going somewhere that the original DOESN'T go with them.

Thanks for replying QCCowboy and suggesting me books to read. I'll get them asap. Now for this, I expected this to not be a variations, as the format I wanted from the beginning was: the first piece of Each category the skeleton of the song singable without moving away from the theme. And the following pieces to be longer. However now I learned a variation will wrap it entirely. I'll combine everything and make it one piece into a variations "style" and post it.

Well... anyways try listening to this. I have cleaned up some spots and made it possible to sing as well.

JC, would you post the new .mus files as well? (OR have you replaced the ones in the first post?)

One thing I would have you change is to add a moving countermelody to the left hand in the places where the right hand is holding a chord, instead of just continuing the two-beat feel through those measures.

I'd be glad to give more feedback if you post another score! :-)

Sure thing! I am glad that you can help. Here it is, I was fixing up some stuff so I only posted the recorded verison. Here is the .mus file in the attachment.

Thanks.
