October 16, 200718 yr Both are great! My personal favorites are the four seasons, the history of tango, oblivion, Ave Maria and a couple of others... But I digress...let's not forget the grand tango, written for Slava...
October 16, 200718 yr Beethoven's sonata for cello and piano in A major, Opus 69, last movement (adagio cantabile - allegro vivace). The allegro vivace contains the best theme ever composed.
November 8, 200718 yr Ah, il violoncello, il mei primo amore~ Even after four years of not playing (I've been lacking a cello ever since my parents separated and we moved here), I still consider it my primary instrument. And it's definitely still my favourite. On the violoncello repertoire, how could I forget 'le cygne'???I love that piece. <3'Twas the last one I performed publicly on the cello, I believe. (I didn't play it that well, then, though... X_x )
November 9, 200718 yr I love that piece. <3 'Twas the last one I performed publicly on the cello, I believe. (I didn't play it that well, then, though... X_x ) It's funny how that piece is considered "cello repertoire"... it's part of a quazi-concerto for two pianos. My favourite cello piece (after my own sonata, of course ;) ) is the Schuman "A Song of Orpheus". And I have rather a weak spot for the first movement of John Williams' cello concerto.
November 9, 200718 yr Viola concerti can be just as good of pieces as violin or cello pieces.... its a harder instrument to play... harder to get music out of it. Be a good composer and actually write a good piece for the viola.. rather than ignore it.Take heart! While I don't often write for strings, when I do the violas shine, sparkle, and kick sand in the face of the violins. :)
