The Sea of Fire - finished

Featured Replies

Finally i'm able to finish all three movements.

I posted the 1st movement before. It had been expanded and simplified (i could not play the original version )

This is to commemorate an event during the WWII in my city, when the resident burned down major facilities before retreating so that the enemy forces could not use them. The main theme is taken from a pop tune about that particular event.

The form used is still a standard sonata for solo piano.

Any comment will be very helpfull

I think this is quite ambitious and well written.

I listened it right through.

If I were to give any criticism it would be this:

The fact that the whole composition is based around one theme AND the finale seems to be in a kind of rondo form where the theme recurs often and is not varied much within that movement. By this point, I had already been hearing the theme (in some form) in the previous two movements.

It's a challenging choice of form because sonata movements (whether sonata-allegro or rondo) tend to be repetitous by nature and the use of one theme throughout the entire multi-movement work will tend to highlight that.

However I think you were mostly successful.

Overall, the theme was varied quite well and didn't get tiresome (though maybe the rondo was approaching the threshold?).

I especially enjoyed the 2nd movement recasting of it in a slower setting.

Congrats on finishing something this extensive.

I dunno but the title sounds more powerful to me than the music.

the music more sounds peaceful. ;P

Yes very ambitious

Did you intend to include any dynamics or phrasing?

Yeah... i need to rework that last movement, but i'm running out of idea at this momment. (it is actually not varied at all, the all-mighty Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V). It's difficult to get variation without changing the mood. So if anybody has an idea ...

Still working on the dynamics.

Thanks for all the comments
