Sibelius 5: Crescendo

Featured Replies

Does ANYONE know how to make this work? The plug ins included dont work, the GPO plug in from Sib 4 doesn't work. The instructions say Sibelius reads dynamics AND hairpins but it certainly doesn't seem to be reading hairpins. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Do you mean on held notes?

Sibelius does not support this functionality, as far as I am aware. You can use the held note crescendo/diminuendo plugin, but you need to be careful with the MIDI messages it generates. Try copying the initial/final volume change elsewhere to avoid jagged alterations.

Yeah held notes is the main problem. Is the plug in you mentioed the one included with Sib 5 anyway? I think that does work but for some reaosn it makes everything about 10 times quieter than normal which is why I was put off it...

It makes everything suddenly quieter because volume changes on held notes are achieved by dynamically manipulating the volume controller on the appropriate channel. Since it will be set at a certain level as soon as the track begins, it's very likely that the first crescendo/decrescendo message will not match this initial level.

Like I said, try copying the first message to the beginning of the track to alleviate the problem.

aaah I see what you mean now! Thank's Mike I shall try it out with all haste XD

Edit: Cheers but I can't seem to get it to work. Maybe I'm still going about it wrong or maybe tis jest a rubbishy system but till I can sort it out I'll stick with my Sib 4, where the GPO plugin at least works properly.

Any luck with getting this to work, particularly with EWQLSO Gold and Sibelius 5?

I'd much rather use CC11 than CC7.

Thanks

Never had any real luck with this. Apparantly it's just the way Sibelius processes it, so I put most of my crescendos in in Cubase 4 now.

As of Sibelius 5, it does support this feature, just using Kontakt Player with Sibelius Sounds Essentials (which your supposed to use).

Also there is a hairpin bug in Sibelius 5. If you set the dynamic change to 10% and save, upon opening it will revert to "auto".

This feature has always worked for me in Sib. 5. Hairpins are read in real time every time there is a new articulation (ie a new "note"). Also, the cresc plug-in (for extended notes) works as well. Check out my marching band closer in the large works section of the forum for some example. There are several parts where you can distinctly hear whole notes getting louder or softer. This was all done within Sibelius using only the included sound sets that came with it.
