Differnt time signatures in finale?

Can you do this?

I'm creating a battery percussion tap-accent exercise were they play unison and then switch out and it creates a nice groove effect.

Unision 5/8 7/8 9/8 then the snares start on 9/8, tenors on 7/8 and basses on 5\8. Does anyone know how to accomplish this?

1. click on the staves icon in the menu bar.

2. Where it says allow independent properties (or something like that, it's in the lower left hand corner) choose allow independent time signature.

3. Apply your different time signatures to each staff.

Yes you can.

The link that songjun gave gives more advanced instructions than what you want.

If you want the same tempo for all, and just different time signatures you have to do the following:

1. find which is the most complicated staff in terms of phrasing and pu the time signature under that (for example 9/8)

2. All staves should change to 9/8 then. Go to all the rest of the staves, that don't have 9/8 and click on the staff attirbutes to NOT SHOW the time signature (shown elements or something on the right side)

3. Then (this is the hard part), you will need to go to the shape tool and create shapes that resemble the rest of the time signatures you want to use. In order to do that you need to find out which font your version of Finale uses. If you go to document->Document options-> fonts - > Notation : time (score) you will see the font Finale is using (prolly it will be maestro 24 pt). Then go to your shape designer and make a few numbers with that font. A 5, a 7, etc. Put them together and you have your time signature.

4. Start writing ALL STAVES in 9/8, but delete the barlines through the staff attributes (items to display) and put your own barlines instead.

It is a big hussle, but I don't think there is any other way to do it. At least not in the very early version that I have. Finale keeps the barlines to the same place.

but it's not really THAT hard. Once you set it up you can input notes, per normal.

What oboeducky, won't probably work for you since it will all be on the same space, same bar, same duration. So if you have a 7/8 and a 9/8, what it will do is it will either fit the 7:9 ration or 9:7 ration. it won't have the same durations, which is most probably not what you want.
