December 14, 200718 yr after a (very) long break, i've managed to get in the 'composing mood'... it's just an idea, i don't know if i can or want to continue it... and it's only my 3rd attempt at composing music so be gentle ;) here it is: aiurea.mp3 p.s.: i'm glad i'm back to reading these forums.
December 14, 200718 yr the starting piano is not working out, the general midi sound has got to go, and the way it's played is not working either (= not realistic). when the drums kick everything sounds nice as a whole (i don't like the fill the drum plays at the very beginning though, sounds to carribean and doesn't really fit the beat) with the string section which smoothes it out nice. harmonically, it works, but when it starts grabbing my attention at 0:52, you tend to make the cliche-est ending possible, you should work on that, this could be the part where all hell breaks loose (or whatever) and things start happening here and there. oh, and the clarinet just goes on without taking a breath, which is very, well, breathtaking, my props to the clarinet player :).. i think the mix sounds good and full. but as far as composition-wise, there can be done so much more to make this song more interesting. you should really put your teeth in this and let us hear it again since i'm curious of what you will come up with. oh, btw, what does the title mean? r.
December 14, 200718 yr Author oups, sorry if i posted in the wrong section (i think it would better be in the incomplete works section, yes).... robertn: you're right ;) the starting piano isn't exactly what i had in mind, but i'm not that great with sibelius.. hence the clarinet is also where it shouldn't be, i didn't mean the solo to be played by clarinet in the firstplace, especially since i know little about the instrument itself (but i presume they DO need to breathe from time to time :D)... initially i had a violin playing that part, but i thought it doesn't stand out among the two cellos so i added clarinet (althought, actually i wanted an electric overdrive guitar to play that but couldn't find such instrument in sibelius). i hope to get the energy and (more important) time to improve this, i don't like the ending either (and i also don't like that it ends too quickly, before finishing the story it has to say) as for the title, it's not the song's title since it doesn't have one yet (i don't have yet a name for the 'mood' i was in when i had the idea to open up sibelius after playing around with the guitar for a while and that 'mood' should be the song's title)... the best translation for the title would be "elsewhere" or "in another place"... hmm, now, if i think of it, it's a good candidate for the song's title .. especially since the romanian 'aiurea' could also mean 'out of order' sometimes (or 'in the wrong order') :) thank you very much for your feedback.
