Ah, now, by ten o'clock today, you really mean eleven fifty-nine today, right :innocent:?

I'm working on something, but was...disrupted this morning (no, not by sleeping in :P) so I could work until 4 or so. I can probably finish the piece by 10 if I really had to, but since few people are entering, why not let me have a couple more hours :musicwhistle:?....and everyone else as well, of course ;)

No, I want it at ten so that I can see how many entries I have before I need to go to bed... And it is 10 in Eastern US time...

OK, I give! Eleven it is! :D

....59 :musicwhistle:?

, whatever, 11's fine...

Grr... I've been stuck at the same spot for two days. Haven't gotten anywhere... I just keep redoing it and trying something else and not liking it...

yup, gotta push the deadline back to tomorrow....there is no choice *shrugs*

:P

To quote the great Douglas Adams: "I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by."

Of course, I could finish it if I wanted to....but it'd be much kinder to just let us do it until tomorrow. I'm entering, as is James.....anyone else ?

HAHA... I LOVE Douglas Adams... that line had me laughing for a good few days... I would keep thinking of it again and again, it's so true.

Almost done....

Hmm..... what are the formats? Submit score (i.e. PDF) and best audio representation as possible?

Are we still PM-ing to all three judges? Mahlon, IHoldthePenHaha, and sirgregsalot? I'll post mine here as links.

EDIT: Making an Mp3 now....

All scores should be either Sibelius or PDF Files.

I guess I will have to push the deadline to tomorrow... I will allow one more chance to push the deadline back, and that's it.

Only PM the scores to me (IHoldThePenHaHa). I doubt that the other judges are even here since they haven't posted.

OH, include an audio if you're going to send a PDF!!

All right, done. I'll be sure to send something in tomorrow....audio, PDF, Finale....everything :w00t:

Ok cool! I'm excited! Also, I can't open Finale files, but if you feel that you need to, go ahead...

I have mp3, .pdf, and .mid. Uploading to eSnips now, actually...

Ah heck! Since you've pushed the deadline back again, I'll tweak the .mp3 some more... :w00t:

Is anybody else doing this besides Dave and I?:huh:

Blah.

probably not...which is why I suggested moving the deadline back, so there could be more than one entry :P

Okay, a little note on my submission. Alan, you never stated that we needed to use our own theme. SOOooooo....... my entry is based entirely on the Irish tune, "Auld Lang Syne" and the Chinese new years song, "Gung Shi". Now, remember that one of your parameters was:

"Melodic intrest- Can you convey a melody in a way to let me understand it completely?"

So, I took the melody I was going to use, and the melody ONLY (which is only eight bars of material, mind you), and tried to build around it harmonically to convey a certain feeling. Your second parameter is harmonic interest, and all of my harmonies are my own original concoctions. I also used the two melodies together in one piece to take the listener to different places (your third parameter). My instrumentation (fourth parameter) is as follows:

Violoncello I

Violoncello II

Violoncello III

Contrebasse I

Contrebasse II

Obviously, your fifth parameter was the name of the game, so I went after that like a herd of turtles. The introduction is my own material, as is some filler material after Gung Shi. These bits of original material are mostly to give the feeling of cherishing the past year and welcoming the new one, as is the main theme, Auld Lang Syne. My middle section, the the Gung Shi melody, is the New Years party. As you can tell, it's rather rowdy, but all eventually calms down and everyone starts singing Auld Lang Syne again. (of course :P )

Since you said to send by PM, I'll post the links in this thread after the judging has already taken place and any winners have been announced.

Wow! I'm glad that even though this is such a small competition (and it is probably appropriate that this is my first competition to judge), and still someone is taking it seriously! I'm soo happy! :happytears:

Entry submitted.

And mine....will be :P. I finished the piece, but now I have to clean it up (not too much work, as I like to write as clean as I can the first time :P) and fix the performance errors. Gotta rehearse before the big recording session :P.

... Yeah right...? It's not going to be recorded, right? :D

Anyway, nice to see that we have two competitors head-to-head. Should I post the results of the competition here?

heh, I was just referring to fixing Finale and my samples to sound their best (after first fixing the actual problems :P).

Sure, post the results here. Are we allowed to post the pieces in their forums as well, or sure we just wait until after the results?

....and what about the other judges ?

I will post the results here, and the pieces that you both wrote at the same time.

The other judges died. :P I assume they aren't judging anymore since they haven't responded after multiple attamts to reach them.

So you're the only one ....can't you get some other judges?

I thought about it... but liked absolute control. I have never been good at teamwork, especially over the internet.

Er, I'm guessing we just send it straight to you, then....no intermediate guy or anything :P?

I think we should call in at least one other judge and add the scores together, I'd rather not see one judge judging two entries by himself, it's a little too..... I dunno, I just want more than one opinion.

I'll be looking for in-depth critiques.

I see what you mean, Enigmus. If you can find somebody that isn't biased against you, count them as a judge.
