Speakers with a quite low budget.

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I'm looking for a new set of PC speakers in order to get a better quality whilst composing in Sibelius. What I'm looking for must be a maximum of 80 pounds and have a sub-woofer. The stuff I write at the moment comes out on proper speakers with a much more defined bass, as my current speakers don't play it as well as I would like.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Why not get a decent set of headphones?

I plan to do both. I often like to compose both with and without headphones so it sounds right in both. Finding good headphones that meet my needs isn't a problem though :)

Have a look at these:

Speakers - 2.1 Speaker Systems - Ebuyer

If you're mainly out to get a subwoofer then there are some really cheap deals around, as you will see.

However, if you do end up going for one of the cheaper models, don't expect miraculous quality. Good 2.1s tend to fetch around

Your head and imagination = as good as 10.10 and beyond.

Excellent Mark

No problem, Jim. ;)

....damn I always misread one for the other!!! Sorry, Mike XD

Try this:

Amazon.com: Cyber Acoustics CA-4400 E 5-Piece Amplified Speaker System: Electronics

This is what I have. The bass is amazing! It also can get VERY loud without the loss of sound quality/crackling found in other speaker systems (45W). It also has surround sound, and is relatively lightweight (under 20 pounds). You can hear the bass from a couple of rooms down due to the subwoofer. And for under $30 it is quite a deal. :)

try working the other way around, get crappy speakers at goodwill. if it sounds good on those, it'll sound good on anything else.

ClubIT has the THX-certified Logitech Z-5500 5.1ch 505W Computer Speaker System, which includes 1 control pod with Dolby Digital/DTS hardware decoding, 4 satellites, 1 center, and 1 188W subwoofer.

The Apple Store (U.S.) - Bose Companion 2 Multimedia Speakers v2

They are excellent speakers. very good bass and decibels for there size. I got mine half price at AU$70. No need for a subwoofer (which are a gimic anyway) with these.
