TITLE NEEDED!

Featured Replies

My current composition project is to compose/direct/produce an opera in a month. I'm about half-way done with it, and it's going to be premiered on Feb. 7 at Oberlin College.

Unfortunately, I don't have a title yet.

The plot is as follows:

Sophie is mauled by a koala while camping with Sam, a man she met in a bar in Australia. She is airlifted to a hospital, where her half-sister Sasha shows up to take care of her. Their dad has recently gone senile, and the dichotomy of Sasha's repressive responsibility and Sophie's carefree folly plays out between the sisters as they discuss life and love. The opera ends with Sasha finally calling her father's home-care nurse, an attractive man named Stephen - the final line of the one-act opera is "Hello."

I will take all suggestions into consideration for our brainstorming meeting on Wednesday.

Well, I have yet to work out the final details of the title of my own opera...:P

You could always go simple and name it something like "Two Sisters" or "Hello" after the final word. Or you some up with a title that is suggestive of the theme.

Anyway, all the best with finding a title and its performance :)

Love the plot! ^^

Something connected to the last line would be good... or maybe you could call it something totally unconnected to the plot, so people think they've come to the wrong performance? :P

:D I'm writing an opera this semester as well! Mine is a sort of abstract idea on repressed emotions and memories being manifested in a woman as another woman, her counterpart. I've decided to call my opera 'One', representing the idea that the two women in the scene are the same person. Also, it will be the last word!!! So I think it would be apt for you to call yours 'Hello', since I got the impression it means a reaching out of sorts to someone more able to help their father? Why all the S names?

Those koalas are vicious!! Trust me I know!

I think we're going to call it "Free Me" - because it's really what both characters want. They go about it in different ways, but that's the end aim.

Obviously this is in english correct?

I'm thinking maybe something like "Barely Kin". There is the obvious pun centering on the koala, plus the fact that the women are not full, but half-sisters, and they are so very different in their take on the world. Just a thought. No offense intended, but your description doesn't seem to suggest "Free Me". Perhaps there is more to the plot than we've been told?

There is. We've actually finally decided on something:

The title is:

"OUR OWN LIVES"

Can't wait to here it!

... hear*... Anyway, it sounds good!

SORRYYYYYY... AHHH, I just took my English Final today and I am NOT in English mode, otherwise that would have NEVER happened. haha.

Performances are Feb. 7, 8, 9, at 7 and 9 PM. If any of you can make it to Oberlin, OH, you'll be able to see it. In addition, I will be getting a recording of the performance, made by the Conservatory Audio department, so it'll be pretty good quality, and I'll also post up the scores once they're finished.
