Mysterious Syrah

Featured Replies

I composed this for a competition at CGEmpire.com. .

Well I didn't win but I got more votes in this competiton than any others in the past.

The competition was to compose a 3 minute piece for a beautiful female character in a Game. We had a picture of her and that was all.

A few other guys from here also entered and produced some great music as well. Hopefully, they will also post their music here and everyone can see the great quality of music that was in the competition.

I call this piece Mysterious Syrah

The winning entry was a rock style piece that was excellent.

I am very happy with how well I did in this and any comments are welcome.

Its a neat little piece. Aside from the little atonal section this piece has nothing mysterious about it, which is interesting since the character you wrote for was mysterious syrah. I think that if you're going to write programmatic music or music for a particular mood then you need to really think about what makes that emotion or mood. If you were going for mysterious, busy is usually not the way to go. There were very little suspensions or hardly and moments of tension which drastically differs from what the title would lead listeners to think of. I think the other problem is that the music is so busy, there is so much going on almost all the time. Its almost like a barrage of sound, there is hardly any time to really listen to the different lines and how they interact. Now outside of the context of a particular character its a very interesting piece. Hope to hear more soon.

I hope the repetition doesn't cheapen the sincerity ... :)

""I enjoyed!

A very light work in complexity and ensemble which handles the mysterious undertones you managed to expertly weave throughout.

Great job, Ron.""

I know that the sincerity is there and I sincerely appreciate it!!!

I know how hard it can be to come up with some thing to say.

Hello again Ron,

I like this work, i love the dissonance, its makes me happy. And its very mysterious and I like it. I just wish that the beginning was more like the rest of the piece in the fact its a little to nice and sweet for me to be mysterious. Great work as always, I just think you could have milked the whole mysterious idea.

Scott.

I said before in review of one of your other pieces that your style is very mysterious, your touch/hint of atonality/utmost dissonance and parallel intervals really solidifies that notion.

I liked that you added chimes, but it seems you forgot about them by the end, why so? You could have brought them back. Also, you have some wind instruments toward the beginning, but I don't hear them much later in the piece either, was there an intention there? I liked the addition of vibraphone. :)

I was fond of your main theme, but for once I don't like how the rest of the piece isn't very thematic. In the exception of this main theme, I don't think it reminds me much of the beautiful sheelas they depict in video games, your style in general seems like a sort of handicap in that sense, one that you need to learn better to use to your advantage. You had a very good start in this piece, I'd like to see more diversity yet in new music to come, I see improvement every time.

I think, all in all, take all of the themes you've composed to, and put them in outer space, and we have this style here that you compose in. Everything you write just sounds like it is trying to depict something otherworldly. And from some of the material it seems that your subject sheela can be quite the rash alien scallop when she needs to be. :w00t:
