Duet for Trumpet

Featured Replies

This isn't anything I'd consider a big deal, I threw this together in half an hour because my trumpet professor likes it when I write duets for us to play in our lessons (for those who aren't instrumentalists, playing duets is pretty much a mainstay in academic instrumental study). Anyway, it's just a short little thing of course, based on an octatonic motive. Writing duets isn't a bad idea just to work out your counterpoint chops.

This is how we learn our craft. The constant plodding thru the mundane to try to reach the attainable. These kind of exercises can sometimes result in more than our expectations would have admitted. Look at some of the great Etudes that have been composed thru the years. Often times these were also just excersizes for the composer as well.

Keep it up

This is not bad at all, interesting throughout.

Your melodies are interesting, and interplay between the voices is good.

You could have made it a bit longer thought.

Good work!

Awesome. I wouldn't suggest making it any longer, but I would suggest writing more little pieces like these to form a set. The harmonic language is very consistent yet maintains interest (at least for me). The only thing that scared me was that it was so high in the trumpet's range, but since you play the trumpet yourself, I'm leaving that judgment up to you.

Good work.

I wrote it in a playable range. Thank you for your comments.
