My first real attempt at an Etude

Featured Replies

Here is my first attempt at actually finishing an Etude, but it is repetitive, and somewhat boring. I would greatly appreciate any tips or ideas from people on how to improve it. Thanks

Okay, here's my first question: What is this an etude for?

Does it work to facilitate any specific fingers? Any specific type of movement?

And how did you go about doing that?

The piece itself was very pleasent to listen to. I liked the dark tonalities, and it kept me entertained.

It is an etude for the left hand. Thanks for your input.

Is it specifically for any one part of the left hand?

For example: Does it work on stretching between certian fingers? Does it work on certian figurations?

I suppose that it is mostly for the crossover of the left hand. When I play it, I do the fingering 5-2-1-3-2-3-1-2-5. Perhaps there is an easier way, but that is they thing I was thinking of when I wrote it.

Ahhhh... I see. Thanks for the info. Do you have any rules in regards to performances of this work? I might be intrested in learning it... and God only knows that once I learn something it ends up popping up in some sort of performance at one point or another...

I am a very contemporary person when it comes to Rubato, I LOVE IT! So rules don't apply. But what exactly did you mean by rules. Tempo? Fingering? Pedal? I can try and help.

Oh... I meant something like copyright restrictions, etc.

Some people don't like their works performed in public, because sometimes the performer doesn't always match what the composer was envisioning.

I just wanted to check in with that. Other than that, I tend to take liberties with my performances, and rubato will certianaly come out.
